There's a conference I go to pretty much every year. I present at it pretty much every year. I am bored and want to go home by the end of it pretty much every year.

Anyways, the technical program came out today and as I was reading through talk titles, I read this: "Optimization of Fellatio Sample Analysis"

I'd love to not give Comcast my money but they are the only player in town when it comes to reliable internet.
Same. I need to pare the cable down since we don’t watch much HBO and Showtime but there’s a limit to how low it will go. Two of us wfh 2-3 days a week so we can’t really draw back the internet speed which is the main cost driver. We also still have a land line which is basically a throw in.

$280 a month though. It’s a lot. Throw the $15 a month Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle and we spnd a ton on TV and internet.

That's worse than mine. What speeds are you getting? I just tested and

It's the cable tv that's the killer.

I'm new to working for the state, so I was surprised to learn that although the state legislature passed the budget with 3% salary increases and a $1500 bonus, the actual state treasurer does not provide much money to fund these increases. They actually gave my institution low five figures to give these bonuses/increases to 1000+ staff and faculty. Good ol' unfunded mandates.

I love rejecting morons I don’t know on LinkedIn that obviously only add me because of my title/experience/employer/whatever

I was hoping to send you a LinkedIn request using your email you signed up here with, and I laughed heartily when I saw it.

I hate how the company I work for has somehow gotten into my head to feel guilty for time away. I was in the emergency room today (all good now) and got home feeling like I should open my work laptop.

I told my husband with maternity leave I'm going to have him change my passwords and hide the computer so I don't feel compelled to make sure everything is going okay.

Seeing more political posts on LinkedIn today, so awful.

LinkedIn is just awful. Attractive women getting 50,000 likes because they got promoted to another menial job and posted a sexy photo celebrating it. Some story about a coworker that died on 9/11 that is ultimately about standing for the flag. And just other unprofessional drivel. Then I realize that in my role I must have a presence on LinkedIn, and it will look bad if I don't.

Isn't there an option to disable political posts? I swear I've seen one.

I login once a week and see the same posts from the week before, just with more "connections" posting/liking/whatever. I close the tab and move on. It's never moved the needle for me, but it does do a phenomenal job of finding people from far in my past. Like an elementary school friend, who isn't even on Facebook.

Yea, somewhere along the line LinkedIn went from a serious tool (how I ended up getting my last two jobs) to now being a hinderance in hiring, imo.

If people can't realize the difference between LinkedIn and Facebook, I personally think they have a hard time regulating it at work. Maybe I take it to serious, but I treat the LinkedIn account like my professional life and keep it very discreet.

I don't look at LinkedIn much. People who post political stuff there and are trying to sell me things should be very thankful.

A coworker at my job made a post that he's "open to work" and seeking a new role. I thought maybe he was let go but nope he's still employed by the company yet actively posting to leave lol it didn't make any sense.

In fact, I "connected" with one of the founders of the Pensblog (I think?) He recently got laid off and was looking for leads on a new position. Like how did I find him on there? So weird.

Nothing wrong with looking, but I’m not sure that I’d flip that switch publicly.
