Apparently the transportation industry doesn’t follow the NYSE holiday calendar.

My wife works in finance and gets all of those holidays. 12 years later I still haven't gotten over it

I’ve reserved all the bank holidays for going on hikes with the dog. Might go to Quebec Run Wild Area tomorrow.

Nice try - doesn't count if it's one Sunday past the originally scheduled Sunday delivery...

I lost Presidents Day, Columbus day and Veterans Day. But gained the day after thanksgiving, the week between x-mas and new years, and the week of July 4th. I think it's rare to leave the cushy bank holidays calendar for something better.

We don't get MLK of and we got an email today about MLK and the events happening around our area from our leadership team. All scheduled for during work hours.

Someone passively aggressively sent a reply all that said "are we supposed to take PTO to go to these events?"

Almost forgot, I think Juneteenth is going to be a holiday at my former workplace, so I lost that one too.

First time I've felt actual admiration for someone to respond like that. Haven't heard or seen anything else, so who knows what happens.

I find it true though, I work for a rather "progressive" company, and we don't get this day off. So if we're not gonna get the day off, don't send me stuff discussing how important the day is to check off an HR box.

If the powers that be wouldn't have effed up and made MLK day the day after the Super Bowl like Dr. King intended, I bet we'd all have it off.

Today was tough... I am a new manager and had to have a pretty tense call with an employee over promotion things. Now that conversation is just hanging over my head.

I usually do that on a day where my calendar is full. Make it worth it.

I started feeling a little under the weather around lunch. Worked the afternoon to get everything done onsite that I could and I’ll be working from home tomorrow. Love being able to just work from home when needed.

My wife started her rotation working in a hospital for the next 8 weeks. The staff is stretched pretty thin because of COVID. Asked how her day was. "Lots of old flat asses and saggy balls."

Sweet.

At my new role I've only been WFH the entire time. I have no idea what post-covid looks like. But I hope I can leverage a day or two at home per week.

My team started working remotely full time like three weeks before the quarantine. If my new director (who has definitely struck me as a micromanager) tries to get us to come back full time, she is going to have a mutiny on her hands.

I was going to get my CAPM and then PMP but decided to be useful to society instead.

That doesn't answer your question, I know.

Haha it's not like I want it...but I feel like getting a "professional" certificate (that I won't pay for financially) might justify the work I have been doing in the real world for the last X months...I have been successfully leading revolutionary (for my company) IT projects over the last several months and the largest one is wrapping up. Despite having never done anything like that before and having no knowledge of coding...

The experienced developers, I have heard, see me as an ally and have been great to me despite my limitations...after our last demo our CEO (who is very Trump-y and very tough to please) said that he would buy the program that we made (which is great, because he is already paying for it)...

In all honesty, outside of hockey, I have no actual skills in my opinion...my best skill is just being able to figure things out, along with adaptability...it's tough to qualify/quantify that...things I do work out well, but only the people I have worked with can really trust that, ya know...? I'm just browsing options that might justify my claims of being an asset, if that makes any sense...

On a call with a vendor yesterday afternoon, and one of them made a comment about how they can't wait to get back into the office again so we can meet face to face, etc. I stopped him mid-sentence to let him know that this will never happen. I will not be going on site to meet with a vendor, because we have all of the technology to make that obsolete. I held that opinion before Covid, and it still stands.

Took my first "just because" PTO day since last spring today. I took three days to go to OBX in October, and worked through my vacation in July. Now that things have settled down, nice to take a couple of these.

Also received my target bonus payout for last year. Very, very happy with that sum. Nice way to head into an off day
