I'm very impressed. I'm on like day 9 of trying to put together something to hold my kids cardboard Voltron sword he made so it hangs on his bedroom wall

There's a guy on my call right now with a cold who is sniffling every 3 seconds and all of us want to punch him in the face to make him go to bed or something.

I would, but he happened to be the guy we needed assistance from. :(

I just realized that my company is giving MLK Jr day on monday as a paid company holiday for the first time ever. Veterans day too for the first time this year too.

Of course someone had to then go post in slack asking if they can have another day off later in the year instead of MLK day because who needs a day off in January after the holidays. *sigh*

My wife's employer gave everyone MLK Day starting right after some of the BLM protests. :pop:

The last private job I had before this had floating holidays. That was pretty cool.

I'm off Monday but it's my wife's first day in her new clinical. Will be a pity to have her out of the house. Yeah.

We still have 4 floating holidays on top of the normal company paid ones.

We usually have no classes on MLK Day or it's a school holiday, which in either case means nothing for me or my staff, as we are open in both instances. In fact, this year our campus is closed...but it's the day before classes start, so students will still need to pay bills, meet with advisors, change schedules...so most offices have to be open to facilitate that kind of thing.

We are given three floating holidays this year, but with most departments understaffed, most decent people feel guilty taking days off.

We're currently work from home (mostly) until Tuesday, but my 35 year veteran of our college needed to take the day off to take her mother in law to the doctor. She apologized profusely for this...which made me feel bad. Nothing of consequence is going on, and I've never given anyone any grief about taking time off. I told her I felt bad she had to take time off for her mother in law lol.

Same for us this year re: MLK and Veteran's Day. Only problem is the union shop doesn't have Veteran's Day off* so we either get that day off or the next to ensure coverage.

* a union that has 90% of the division's veterans not having Veteran's Day off is baffling to me.

I'm guilty of the "another day in paradise" thing when someone asks me how my day is going, or at least I was when we were in the office ha.

My answers are typically grim and sardonic...even to people outside the company...

"Hey mikey, how you doin'?"
- Oh, I'm barely clinging to life, thanks, how bout you?

It breaks the minutia, and it sets the tone for what type of person that they're dealing with...I am not a good script follower...

Coworker: Better than I deserve

My answer these days is "I'm hanging in there," which is most accurate.

Gotta love when your Saturday turns out to be one long troubleshooting/brainstorming session for a feature that was rushed to release for a market. Surprising when that goes badly.
