I had to manually modify my wife's RDP config file so she could use 2 monitors at home. Felt like a hacker.

Why not just use VPN?
I connect via a VPN and then use RDP to get to the servers that I work on.
OK, I mean i guess that makes sense. You'd use it either way, in or out of the office then

That's the old school way of doing things. Installing the Citrix VDA on that box and then accessing it through Citrix would optimize the entire experience. Native RDP is not at all conducive to a smooth experience from remote locations, and never will be.

I've been using this setup for years and it works except when I can't get in the VPN (must be too many users) and then have to use Citrix.

My work from home stint went all of three weeks after Wolf's new order. His new order went back to "if you can work from home, work from home." So our company naturally sent home customer service, sales, finance, etc. People that are just on computers all day. R&D went to a one person onsite for emergencies rotation and "if you need to come in, come in". Starting today we switched to "you're onsite, but if you need to work from home for a day, work from home for a day."

I don't mind, it's just the back and forth, back and forth. I bought a new desk, new chair, and new modem for work from home last week and boom, I'm back in the office. lol. At least my wife will get good use out of the desk and chair as she's going to set up her sewing machine.

After October 1st, they're going to start allowing us to go in to the office to clean out our cubes and do anything else that's needed. I'll be moving my VMware host and other box into our lab so that I don't have to worry about it on the floor. Gonna need a suitcase to bring all of my personal items home with me.

My one co-worker came in this morning in a bit of a tizzy, and for good reason. She messaged us on teams to see if we were doing our morning huddle, and I said "X and I are at the office... are you staying home today?" She didn't realize that we were going back to working at the office. The instructions weren't entirely clear, and our manager is out today.

She wasn't mad about having to come into work, she was just mad about the unclear expectations and having to ditch her husband with the kids. The mandate came from on high for us to come back into the office. Apparently the bossman missed having us around the office (which I just found out about today). Dude spends half the year in Florida anyways. Then you've got our manager: 3 kids that are all old enough to take care of themselves, and a wife that is a stay at home. Meanwhile me and my coworkers: elementary age kids and a spouse that works.

I think this just leads to the bigger issue about forcing people to come in and be onsite in these times: if there's no school, camps, and/or daycare how in the hell can you expect people to be onsite to work? I know the answer from dodint and tif is just don't have kids, but it's a bit much for anyone to just dump all the responsibilities of being a parent on their significant other when they're still working as well.

At a time like this, why do you need to be on-site full time? You've said there are some hands-on things you have to do at times, which is relevant, but the rest of the time?

My normal stance generally is you're expected to perform regardless of any home situations - but this is a different beast. No one expected anything like this when they had kids, employers need to be a little flexible right now

I just overheard the boss man on a call. He's worried about the company culture with people not being onsite. He wants people here so morale stays up. Obviously, with our group the opposite happened.

He doesn't realize that you don't have to be onsite to have morale, or to get work done (unless proven otherwise) He's a relic of a past era.

I get Lab stuff is hard to do at home, but outside of that if you don't have a legit reason to be in the office right now, one would hope he would realize it's best to let people stay home and work.

Thats seems to always happen with any "morale boosting" decision

A follow-up? It was already on there once.

There is also a Guy Fieri restaurant being installed inside the new casino at Westmoreland Mall.

I guess so... from what I read he was there in 2009 before, so maybe just ran out of new places to go? Who knows haha.

He’s been to this burger place in Charlotte like three times on his show. Granted, I’d punch an old lady in the face for one of their burgers so I’m not surprised he’s been there multiple times.

Does anybody here actually get “dressed” for work when working from home? I’ve been in shorts and a t-shirt every day since March, and don’t intend to change from that pattern. Meanwhile, my wife dresses like she’s going in to the office each day even though she, too, is working from home.
