I guess my thinking is, if they send people a box to mail the monitor back, the people don't give a ****, pack it like a jackass, and a large percentage return broken. So save the shipping cost, and not bother asking people to mail them back?

So they can bill you for the damaged monitor at purchase cost? If I was an evil corporation that's what I would do.

My old department made me return the laptop they gave me, even though I still needed a University laptop for my next job. Of course, nothing was set up on the new one so I had to go through that whole process.

So inefficient imo

For some reason my company has given me every computer I've ever used. The last one was an old Mac Pro trash can model. I traded it into Apple for my new personal Macbook Pro. I even had money leftover for Apple Care.

I think I know the answer to this, but I was in a pilot program at my current institution to give each faculty member and student an iPad. I was issued an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil back in late 2017. These leases were designed for four years, or how long it takes our students to graduate. My iPad is long paid off, I'm sure, but I'm sure I'll need to turn it in when I leave in February (!) But are they really going to re-issue my 4 year old iPad to someone? It's not even the right model any longer, as the Pencil works with lower end non-Pro models...which is what our IT department started buying immediately to save money.

For folks that have been doing wfh jobs, when you leave a position, besides the laptop, what other items are you expected to return?

I'm on a job for a company now where they sent us laptop, monitor, docking station, etc, but there's questions on whether they want the monitor to be sent back. Seems crazy that's even up for debate. I it's a dope monitor, so I hope it's just a "write off" for the bank, but, just confused by the whole thing.

No, on a loan staff project for a bank, they issued us (the contractors) that stuff. The return discussions are only the computers, seems like there isn’t a process for returning the monitors

I would follow explicit direction on the issue and see what happens.

They (the company I worked for that was bought out) sent a office phone IP system that I never used seven years ago and I pitched it when I moved recently.

We can carry 30 days over from one year to the next. Any more than that get put into a safety bank. Essentially, the pto is there, but it’s not useable unless you’ve used all your pto and have an outstanding reason to use it (illness, family member illness, etc.)

I'm truly not sure how it is at my company now with WFH, however I do know that monitors are not a tracked asset. So when we were in the office and someone with a nice monitor left, you were able to fly in and scoop it up without anyone noticing.

I'd not get rid of it but wouldn't be in a hurry tk return it. Case in point, I got a new cell phone in August last year. Never knew I needed to return my old one, but April this year they asked where it was. Luckily it was in a drawer and I just boxed it up and returned. Audits happen at random intervals would be my guess.
