It sounds like they are also going to try and play the "extenuating circumstance" card since its a UPMC to UPMC transfer and try to hold her longer. They can hold her 4 weeks in general. I told her if they try that you tell them you want to see that policy in writing.
Even if it's four weeks max, I'd just power through it at this point. Her future boss may be able to throw around their weight to get her over there sooner.

4 weeks is the normal max. The extenuating circumstances is what could make it longer than 4 weeks. That's the part I don't necessarily think is legit, but we will cross that bridge when we get there. The 4 weeks is standard I think UPMC to UPMC transfer.

Oh, so 8 weeks total? Yeah, that'd be a problem for me. Should be easy enough to clear up by going directly to HR for the policy, especially if her department is hell bent on being a stumbling block.

I guess HR from each department of UPMC talks to each other and works it out. That is how the Oct 28th start date came about as of now. Then something came from her boss about it being longer possibly. I'm like you do what HR tells you to do. Your boss can complain all they want. You give the notice you are required and let HR work it all out.

On of our manufacturing techs trusted a fart today, and his trust was broken. If that was me, I wouldn't say a word to anyone about it. He told one person, who of course told someone else, who of course told the whole company. Now everyone is making poop jokes. It's a good day.

He's actually in a good mood. He's laughing about it right along side everyone else. I mean, what else can you do?

We were at a huddle and I said something along the lines of "Man... these look really sh*tty." And everyone chuckled a little bit. I had no idea what was going on, and someone said "Maybe it was *insert employee name* that did those..." and everyone busted up laughing.

Mean while, me:

Sent an email to a customer double checking that they want to stop the streaming of their nest cam. My boss, that has no idea how my job needs to be done since we were a small company that was purchased and I was put in his department, tells me that I shouldn't contact them and that customer service should. Problem is the people in customer service have no clue how anything works. When technical calls come in they transfer them to me even if they aren't supposed to because there are no defined rules.

Dude was scheduled to be here for an all day interview at 8:30. He showed up at 7:55. Woof.

Now I understand his reasoning. He had to drive in and wanted to give himself plenty of time to get here, BUT... he's like mid 20's. You've got a phone with internet. Find a place to sit and drink a cup of coffee so you're not the weirdo that shows up 35 minutes early for an interview.

Maybe he's smart and doesn't drink coffee.

I've been told that showing up early for an interview (between 15 minutes and half an hour) was a good thing.

Maybe I'm just getting **** advice.

15 minutes is the general rule of thumb. More than that and I think you're a burden...

5-10 minutes is what you want. Get to the place early, and find somewhere to hang out until the 5-10 minute mark. Like mikey said, earlier than 15 minutes and you're just a burden.

yes. plenty of places to "hang out" in the greater state college area. what is this dude gonna do? Sit at sheets and judge the customers based on their mud boots?
