I honestly don't know if the intention was to micromanage people attending meetings, or provide an automated way to see who was there. Both reasons are dumb, though.

I was just asked if my team supports door badge readers (we don't), because a manager wants to install one in a conference room to confirm who was in attendance. This sounds like micro management to the nth degree, but who knows.
That is insane. Obviously we have a fob to get into the office, but to put it on individual rooms within the office? With the exception of secured rooms, that is super micro-managery.

Did a bunch of interviews yesterday to bring people in. These are all contractors who come from staffing agencies, and one guy had a SEVEN page resume. SEVEN. Like who does that, and how does the staffing agency not tell him to pair that down before sending it out to potential companies? I would have just trashed it, but my boss wanted to bring him in. Then he was 10 minutes late on top of everything. He was overall awful, and I don't think anything would have redeemed the interview, but like CMON MAN.

Depends on the career. If you're giving me a one page resume for somebody in IT, it has better be for a junior level position. Most that I see are two pages.

Two pages is fine, maybe 3 if you are a senior level IT guy. This position was not that. It's a tier 1 help desk for the most part. Most of these guys will be fresh out of college or maybe one job in to their career. No one should be applying with a 7 page resume for the position we had open.
Either way... had 5 interviews that I sat in on.. and one guy was decent enough to get an offer. It was brutal.

Boss (department VP) told us this afternoon he is taking severance.

Just sat through a two hour Zoom meeting where one individual's nose whistled the entire time. Mute it man.

You gotta invent something. You know how kids leave their toys everywhere? Okay. So this is a vacuum. It's like a shop-vac type of thing. Vrrrt. Teaches kids how to pick up their own toys. Right? Baseball gloves, hacky sacks, drumsticks. Vrrrt. Picks it up!Boss (department VP) told us this afternoon he is taking severance.

As expected, no bonuses this year. But hey I have free parking and coffee.
Amazing that we never know what it's going to be percentage wise until it's paid out, but we know 4 months in advance when there won't be any.

Not sure but there are plenty of Sr. level positions to choose from. Either don't want to work there or requirements are tough.

I do product management for an enterprise grade commercial mobile app whose users are all independent contractors. It'd be the perfect fit lol

I've never taken an Uber, Lyft, etc., and my only experience with them is yelling at them to get the **** out of the left lane whilst they hold up traffic.

Our company does work with Uber, and I've visited a couple of times. Has the feel of a Google or Apple to it...free breakfast and lunch, ping pong table, open benches as work stations, high tech everything, etc.
I do get the impression that they work you to death though. It's probably a combination of high turnover and they are rolling out their new vehicle soon.

Interesting day. What I meant here was that my OT rate is capped at a certain amount, and my base salary is almost at that amount. At least I thought. It turns out my OT exemption was 'coded incorrectly' when I started working here and I was supposed to be making 1.5x my normal hourly rate. I got a letter from my agency saying that I will be receiving back pay for the last two years of OT that was worked. Niiiiiice.I'm 'salary' but anything over 40 hours and I get paid overtime. It's weird. I'm close to getting high enough on the ladder where that goes away, though.

All typical of a "high-tech" industry. They'll work you to do death because they know there are dozens other willing grad level people ready to put their body on the line to work terrible hours. Our company does work with Uber, and I've visited a couple of times. Has anyone converted from 1099 part time to a FTE?
I have done 1099 work for a company on the side. They contacted me and said there is a 9-12 month project that just started that I might a good fit for as a FTE. I assume I’d be W2 with their benefits, etc and I’d be a permanent employee with them?
