We got an email about the hidden paycheck today. With things like free gym, free coffee...

I guess I'm not getting a raise this year. Writing is on the wall

I'll assume from context clues that means "instead of money...you get groupon things...ya know, stuff you were definitely gonna spend your money on anyway, so we cut out the middleman...you're welcome..."

In other words, he's getting a baseball bat right up his hoop...

Yeah. Like "in addition to your salary you get all these great benefits, so you shouldn't complain when you get minimal salary raises and bad bonuses in June."

Maybe I'm being pessimistic.

You are but doesn't sound unwarranted.

Smallest raise I ever received was 10 cents. 2.90 to 3.00/hour.

I toured a nuclear power plant today and was not quite ready for the security team to be kitted up with M4s and body armor. They did the mirror under the car thing like they do at the border, and they also searched my engine compartment. Inside there were several bunker stations - marked Fighting Compartments, as well as a firing range (which they were training on this morning) Very serious business for a rural reactor plant.

That’s SOP for any nuclear plant these days.

Evidently. I had no idea, obviously.

Pretty cool stuff seeing how much training they get before they are licensed etc.

My uncle's a nuclear engineer, and finally retired this year. He was able to buy his first cell phone with a camera now that he doesn't have to follow any restrictions.

This has been SOP at my company since I started working here 7 years ago. We get $40 Walmart gift cards close to Christmas time.

Co-worker flags every email she sends as "High Priority." Somebody should tell her that when every email is high priority, none of them are.

Our training director does this. Training dates, newsletters, announcements, whatever.

Worse than that is the guy on my team that encrypts every single e-mail. We only encrypt FOUO material, but he encrypts everything. Super annoying because you can't read encrypted e-mail on our mobile phones.

You don't get a raise? And haven't for 7 years?

Just the customary inflation raise, 2-3%

Ah ok, I wonder how standard that is in small to mid-size private companies...or really in general...

That's generally what we get, last year they gave up some 4%s this year...I always fight for more (because I'm persuasive and kind of good at my job evidently), so I've accumulated an increase of about 87% in about four years...not a big deal...keep the change.

Come to the point where I am beginning the search for a new job. Feels weird to be updating my resume and searching for a new job while employed. Especially since I am doing both on the clock.

My company is neither small nor mid-sized, but is operated by divisions. In other words, the mothership is huge, but each little spaceship is responsible for its own well-being. The division I work in is not the most profitable, and prides itself on being cheap.

I still make a decent living, so I haven't brought it up with my boss. I have a feeling I make close to what he's making, so I'd be pushing it asking for anything more than the customary raise. On top of that, I like my job, which is a new experience for me.

Being in the workplace for 20 years, I've found that the best raise you can get is by being a mercenary and flipping jobs every so often. That's not something in the immediate future for me, if I have any say in it.

This came up today. I have a hypothesis

Somewhere between 80-90% of breaches of email etiquette (fonts, backgrounds, replying all, etc) in the corporate setting are committed by women. Change my mind.

No offense to the corporate ladies in here like llipgh, I know she is not one of them

Job seeking while employed is the best. You can literally only go up from where you're at now, it's very exciting.

Can I change your mind that it's more than 90%?
