Yes, managing 3 other technical people. She'd still be reporting to the Director (as she does now), who reports to this dingus. This was for a management role, no?Absolutely. This is one of those guys who simply doesn't understand the value of a work/life balance. Not everyone is a lifeless robot with nothing to go home to.

I'm on a technical call about a new piece of software that we've never even heard of before today. I mention that this is definitely a project, and that we need to identify resources before we can really do anything. Our Sr. Director's take on all of this? We need to design the entire architecture and implementation before the first project kickoff meeting.

Make it a kickoff and wrap up meeting all at once!

So I got the official offer letter today. Almost a 30% raise, compared to the 10% raise I was initially said was the max for an internal transfer. Plus the increase in the bonus % target as well. Not too shabby. Have to read over the whole thing before I accept tomorrow, but pretty pumped.

Niiice.
Called my boss today and told him I am applying for an opportunity in operations. He was very supportive. I am very on the fence about the job but I owe it to myself to at least apply and see where it goes.

He can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that he’s a policies and procedures guy now.

Mass email about a promotion today. About a dozen responses all roughly equivalent to "YOU GO GURL!"

I see what our OPS guys deal with on a daily basis....that's a big nope for me.

So he wants to be a manager. Or maybe it's an area of specialization that I've never seen in businesses that I've worked for.He can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that he’s a policies and procedures guy now.

NTP66 is close. Right now I am a cybersecurity compliance officer. I take standards set by NIST, DoD, big Army, etc. and assess whether they are being applied at the field level. I observe and give recommendations to higher staff based on my findings.
This new position is in the same office. It's the Operations Officer job. Basically the second level ops position under the section chief. I would be put in charge of projects, ordering equipment for IT infrastructure and end users, and ensuring our contracted techs are performing in accordance with the terms of the contract. It's a non-supervisory position, no direct management of subordinates. Just functional management of technicians and agency IT assets.
It would be a substantial promotion but a departure from my current career path.

How does that effect school or what you hope to do with your law degree?
Job and General Employment Thread
I am done with school in December. Shouldn't affect that. It will make it more difficult to setup my firm on the side, though.
I am fully vested in my pension in 9 years, at which point I plan to switch to law full time. In the meantime I plan to run a small practice and volunteer my time for pro bono work.
9 years at the next pay grade goes far for my pension and earnings, generally.

Signed the official offer letter this and submitted it. So I guess that make sit official. Now have to see how the transition goes. Has to be done on a payroll monday per the recruiter and the next payroll monday I am on vacation for the week. So not sure if they will bump it out two weeks or not. Either way it's going to be weird... and I officially have a title that I always fought against being....

Congrats skullman.
Speaking of software engineers, glad this is my last week at my current place. There is a software engineer here that is a complete dope. Thinks he knows everything, but all he does is screw stuff up. I'm in the process of training the test engineer on how to test the product line, and finding all the bugs that the software engineer has added. We had a fully functioning piece of hardware and he scraped all the code for it, because "he was told to". I told him not to lie to me and called him on his bs.

We always strive to notify people if they have not been selected, or if the position has been filled. For lower-level positions that get 100+ applicants, obviously there is no way we are going to have the time to review/screen every single applicant, so a lot of it is the earlier you apply. In any event, this just goes to show that even if you try and do the right thing....
You should have let me know this two weeks ago.
You are a poor *redacted* and I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND YOU.
ACTUALLY I WILL DO THE OPPOSITE.
EMAILING IS THE EASY WSY OUT.... YOU should have let me know when YOU knew that I was no longer a candidate.
I hope your new person screws you up
