That's IS in general, IMO. The market has been hot since even before covid, and now it's even hotter with the push to virtualize, move to the cloud, etc.

yeah. My company is not only underpaying their employees but starting to force people back to the office. Any smart software company is at the very least going to allow remote employees because post-COVID, the game done changed

Didn't you say you worked for some sort of software/dev company? That policy is going to drain them of talent, and prevent them from acquiring more of it.Source of the post My company is not only underpaying their employees but starting to force people back to the office.

Yeah. There’s actually been some drama around this. The engineering managers has a meeting with the CEO and he said if people don’t want to come back then he’d rather have a short staffed team of people who want to come in then people who “dodint” about management. I was astounded when I heard him say this considering how many people we’ve already lostDidn't you say you worked for some sort of software/dev company? Yikes. Are you full stack...? What's your skill set?
My company stinks overall, but the dev team is decent (except one, who I'm strongly considering replacing), but we already won the fight about coming back into the office...the last guy we hired - straight out of code boot camp or whatever - is from Houston and he's been a terrific fit and contributor.

Got my name on a second published patent today. This one was more of a team effort, but it counts nonetheless.

I just got my 2nd patent a month or so ago. I'm sure at some point it will get old as I continue in this position, but it's still really cool to think about.

Thanks, congrats on yours as well. I may be tapped out at this point, but we'll see. Two projects came along that required some inventive thinking, and you never know whether it will come up again. Mechanical engineering is a lot more rearranging things that already exist to make it work the way the customer wants it. I guess ChemE is the same way, haha.Got my name on a second published patent today. This one was more of a team effort, but it counts nonetheless.

First. Way to go, nerds. Two. Is getting your name on a patent anything like getting your medical page published? I get at least 10 emails a week about submitting my papers in some fourth rate medical journal.

Somewhat... I think in my field published, peer-reviewed journal articles are more prestigious than patents. It's not super hard to get a patent, you just pay money, but it's typically something that's generally respected as for a company to spend the money to get a patent on an idea typically means they find value in it.

Ok cool. Similar situation with peer reviewed medical journals then. The good ones cost money to sybmit to - somewhere between $5k and $8k to even submit. Because of that, my health system has a mini internal review board that reviews papers before you are allowed to start submissions. I’m getting up there in number of accepted papers to the point where I’m wondering how to display that on a resume.

I have it on good authority that corporate policy is changing to treat weed like alcohol and only test for it in post incident situations and no longer in randoms!
