Carrying over from the Travel thread....
sounds like you're enjoying it.
Very much so. My new-hire orientation ppt deck cover page was Elastigirl, The Mandalorian, Captain America, and Moana. The end slide was Elsa, WALL-E, Iron Man, Simba, and BB-8. It is forever a part of My Story and I am happy and it is awesome and I am happy so very happy that it worked out this way and yay4me and all that.

It is, however, only a 1-year assignment with a 50/50 chance that I can't be extended never mind won't be. (Long story) But for that year, I am a Blue Badge Employee and that is pretty sweet.

I was just informed that my team is back to being listed as 100% remote in Workday, so my paychecks are about to get bigger thanks to Philly taxes no longer being taken out.
I feel like I'm quoting you a lot today....

I'm not actually sure how that works here. There's a Los Angeles occupational tax, and that's where I live. But my employer is in Burbank, and I don't know if there's a city tax there. I don't know how that's been applied during the pandemic. Never even thought to look into it, tbh.

Ha, that's for Cast Members. But we did do it on the orientation Zooms.

My Employee badge does have Mickey Mouse on it, so at least there's that.

Job and General Employment Thread

Postby DigitalGypsy66 » Thu Jan 06, 2022 10:14 am

Today's the day.

Putting my notice in with my supervisor today at 1 at our regularly scheduled meeting.
Telling my staff after that meeting concludes.
My wife will inform her principal she won't be back next year right after that.
Telling the kids tonight after dinner.

I'm a mixture of anxiety and sadness right now. I don't care what my supervisor or her superiors think about it. I am a little concerned about my staff, because I'll feel guilty about abandoning them. But I've been telling them all to keep looking for opportunities elsewhere because of the financial mess our employer is in. I just feel like I am letting people down for some reason.

My wife can't wait to leave her school, because the new principal is spineless and caves to parents and weak teachers, constantly undermining my wife's effort.

My main source of anxiety is about telling my kids. We hinted at it and said it was a possibility, and they were neutral about it. I moved when I was their age(s) and I was miserable. But this was the late 80s, and hundreds of miles away. Long-distance phone calls cost real money back then. No easy way to talk with friends like they can do now with FaceTime, Snapchat, Discord. My older son has a girlfriend that he adores, and that's going to be the main issue. Fortunately, we're moving to a popular vacation location for many of their friends, and only 80 miles away or so.

Overall, I'm excited, but this is going to be a long day.

Good luck, DG. The kids part is definitely the most difficult I would assume.

I can't say I've dealt with those kind of changes from the parent side, but every time I've had a change like that as an adult or even when my parents made those choices it was ultimately for the better. Good luck. :thumb:

Good luck DG. If you start to feel bad, you know you're doing the right thing for the right reasons. Hopefully the kids will understand and make it easier on you

I don't know what DG is so worried about, I contacted his employer weeks ago to give them a heads up.

Good luck DG--big life change days are nervewracking, but definitely don't let them guilt you.

Honestly, this is about as secure a board as it gets. Small community, very rare for someone to drift in from off the reservation, etc. Hence why I vent openly about my MIL on here

First steps completed. Went about as expected.

Now I have to craftily word my resignation letter so I can get all 25 vacation days I haven't been able to use because of COVID and inadequate staffing.

We're allowed to take 10 days, but that's for two work weeks after our last day. One of my employees got to take 15 because of how she worded her letter. I need to say "Last day as <name of title>" and then something along the lines of "last day on campus" which will be much sooner. I'm also teaching three classes between now and May, which are side stipends.

Or maybe they won't care how it's worded.

We moved to Ft Lauderdale in May of my 7th grade, and we moved back to PA just before Christmas that same year. Seriously, I only missed like 5 months of school, but upon returning I still had 'new kid' syndrome. I honestly didn't feel like I was 'home' until like junior year. It was weird, but ultimately for the best.

Well, the kids took it very well - almost TOO well. The 15 year old was asking questions about my job, my wife's potential job, and was very open to moving (he has a "serious" girlfriend too). The 13 year old was less enthusiastic, but that's how he is about everything.

I'm feeling pretty good about how it came together today.

After 8+ years away in 3 different states during that time I accepted an opportunity back in the Pittsburgh area. Really excited to get back to friends and family but weird leaving my first "real job" after 8 years.
