You should always have an opinion of your parents, dudeGoing to my pop’s 82 birthday later this month, so I will get one at CVS as a precaution for my parents. I don’t have an opinion on them, otherwise.

During my CG days, I remember there was the smallpox scare in the early 2000s, and we had to get the smallpox vaccine. That was fun having to care for a festering wound on my arm for several weeks.I can't speak for mikey, but I probably have more vaccinations than 98% of anyone here and I choose not to get the flu shot. Flu shot is silly, not vaccinations.mikey is an anti-vaxxer.

"Gently used"

I was going to post something about going to a “shop” in Mikey’s neighborhood and - at the insistence of a particularly freaky lady friend - buying way too much nitrous oxide, but I’ll keep that to myself.

Stick to HR, shadwick. Leave the selling to me. No one wants to hear "used"..."experienced"...now that's a word with charisma..."Gently used"

It was a pretty big deal in my neighborhood for a while, kind of a landmark, it had a mural and everything...it's on 12th just before Walnut. After like 30 years, they shut it down (some kind of fire code stuff, AIUI). So mikey had to find a new gym...on the down side: It was like three blocks from me, had good hours and was quite affordable. On the plus side: Another gym picked up the active memberships, it has a location one block from my work and there's a lot more smokeshows in it than, ahem, the crowd that 12th St. catered to (not that there's anything wrong with that)...actually might even save a couple of bucks when it comes to actually signing up for it as it turns out...
But just in case it was something you recalled (as it's a pretty big strong punch to the gut for the gayborhood), I figured I'd share...that's all.

I’m surprised. That seemed like a permanent fixture.

That's what everyone thought...it was sudden. Like a week before it closed, they sent an e-mail out and were handing out things in the gym stating the news. I haven't walked by it since to see what the story is...I hope Philly Sports Clubs buys a resistance machine or two from them and another rack of free weights...but I'm just being selfish...

Did someone ask for a doctor?
I had my first flu shot in my entire life this past December. But that was only because I went to the doctor for a physical for the first time in my adult life and I had some other vaccinations that needed updated, and my wife said I had to do it because a kid was on the way... ummm, k?
Anyways, they are odd. Taking a very educated guess at what strain is going to run rampant this year and trying to vaccinate for it is really hit or miss. I have nothing against them, and I don't encourage people to not get them, but to me... pass. If I get the flu, so be it. I'll stay home, keep it to myself, and move on. If I were in a situation where I worked with kids or the elderly, I'd get them yearly.

Worked for me a few years ago. I had the shot and my dad did not. He got the flu first, and passed it to me, but what I had was much less severe. He ended up going to the E.R., because his heart rate was up.

Right, I'm sure it does work some years for some people... why else would they do it?
To piggyback on what shmenguin said... I went the first 30 years of my life without a flu shot. I think I got the flu once or twice, both when I was in grade school. Never in my adult life. Is that because I didn't get the flu shot? Of course not. It's likely because I have a strong immune system and am rarely in a situation where I could get the flu.

I'm very much anti-flu shot. I've only ever had it once, and I got the flu like a week later.

So yesterday, my employer ordered a bunch of pizzas for lunch, since it was such a shitty day for snow removal. After lunch, there was five entire pizzas left in the fridge, and someone took all of them last night.
I'm reminded of the person who was taking all the Pepsi's after the vending machine guy came.

That person should be extradited to a state that believes in the death penalty and then penalized.
Unrelated: Getting into work today was almost physically impossible. I'm really not one to overreact, but it's an actual safety concern of mine having people try to come in. Penny wise, pound foolish by our company (again) to try to coerce people into the office today...I physically could not walk the 9 or 10 blocks to work from my apartment. I got 2 and a half blocks before the trail was impassable...
