Job and General Employment Thread

Postby Kaiser » Sun Jun 28, 2020 2:25 pm

I haven't put on a pair of pants in months, and I have no intention of changing that.
I haven't worn socks since April. Flip flop summer baby
I must be the only person in here that doesn't enjoy wearing those every day. We do a lot of walking with the kids around the neighborhood and I don't like doing a lot of walking with flip flops and no support.

Pretty much the only week I wear them with any regularity is when I'm at the beach.
You aren't alone, f*** flip flops.

I wear flip flops year round inside and wear them about 9 months of the year outside...I have been a loyal Reef Mick Fanning supporter for about 10-15 years now. I can walk for miles in them, I can go to shows in them, I can run in them, I am better than anyone in most sports in them...never miss a flopportunity...figure your dumb lives out...idiots...
I assume the ones with the bottle opener on the bottom?

Yup yup. I had the ones with a flask in the bottom for a spell...and then it turned out that drinking 800 degree vodka wasn't as good as it sounds...

You’re all muppets for wearing socks and shoes. It’s barefoot season, baby.
I'm all in on barefoot, only 4 splinters and one bee sting so far. Gets a little dicey mowing and weedwacking, but what are you going to do?

If you’re married just use your ring to open the bottle.

I do barefoot pretty often too.

I just got a new pair of Teva flops. They're nice and comfy.

Apparently, due to how the academic calendar was decided, we do not get a day off for Labor Day.

Classes are in session that day due to Big Rona messing up the schedule, which means faculty have to report, which pretty much means staff doesn't get a choice.

Back to job related posts ya posers.

I volunteered to represent my department at our kickoff meeting planning committee.... Man what a mistake.... At least I grabbed a few brownie points in my boss's book.

My sisters employment got cut down to 10 hours a week, so under the qualifying amount for benefits. I would've thought accounting might've been a little insulated from this but I guess not.

I am fortunate my wife and I both work for industries that are essential, but not necessarily are essential ourselves (so we can WFH).

Same - both of us work for health systems. By all accounts, we're going full time WFH. It's mentioned constantly, even by our CIO. My wife's company? Their CIO has made comments at their town halls about people "asking him when we can return because we miss it". Lying. Through. His. Teeth. The irony is that this guy owns a consulting company that is 100% remote worker, but hates it when these guys work from home. My wife has to fill out an Excel spreadsheet of the stuff she works on when working from home, daily.

Ditto for us. I work for a company that provides Cpaps/Vents, and she works for the largest hospital organization in Pittsburgh. I am remote till end of 2020 at least. She is back in the office 3 out of 4 days now, but it's because largely things are semi back to normal with clinics and stuff for her departments patients. In any event both of our jobs are as secure as can be during something like this and for that I am thankful.

That's good. I'm still a little nervous because of all the talk of possible changes, and apparently unemployment affects our financial stability (medicaid, I think?). Pre-covid, our census was over 100% for a very, very long time, so we had been doing quite well.
