I am a supervisor in charge of about 6 employees. I keep getting Christmas presents from staff members. Am I supposed to give anything to them? Even the ones I don't like? I don't recall my predecessor getting us anything, but she used to host the Christmas party each year (now we do a potluck).

*sigh*

Had to have my work machine hard reimaged to Win10 today. Backed up all my data. Except the OneNote which insists on saving locally instead of on the share drive so all of my working notes and procedures from the last year are gone. What a pain in the ass, especially since I double checked to make sure it was backed up, except the file I checked wasn't the actual file OneNote was using. My fault ultimately but you had to know of all the products I backed up the MS one would give me the biggest problem.
You can backup your OneNote automatically to a shared drive. I save mine to Dropbox. So the "notebook" is saved locally, but I have tons of backedup files (updates once a day) in my dropbox that I could open if something happens to my locally saved ones.

Yeah, that's how mine was setup but it hadn't synced. I think it's because when I login to my machine the first time the drives never 'map' until I manually click on them the first time. I think OneNote does a check, can't reach it the first time, and then doesn't try again the rest of the day. Just a hunch.

I don't have the option of backing up government work material to outside storage.

Dropbox would be fine for personal use, but business use? Wouldn't fly here, or most other places.

My first year here was my supervisor's first year as a manager. In fact, I was his first hire. He got a little something for the 3 of us in our department that he oversees. I believe I was the only one that got him anything, but it was just a box of hohos.

I don't care much for gift exchanges in this scenario...but that's a sucky position to be put in...

I suppose a question is what kind of gifts are you getting from them? It cost me less than $10 to get gifts for the 3 people I work most closely with and all three appreciated the gesture.

It was just an example of a shared (non-local) drive you can save backups to. It doesn't have to be dropbox to do backups like that.

I use GDrive for school and personal stuff. I can't use it for work though. At work we have a series of network shares that are supposed to keep our data but in this instance it didn't work. I should have manually exported the book like I did when I left my old job, alas.

We're working our way towards OneDrive. We currently use ShareFile, which is a steaming pile of monkey **** that should be avoided at all costs.

OneDrive is like cancer. It gets into your system and spreads itself out until you can never remove it. Similar to a diagnosis of Cortana.

And yet, it's still a better solution than ShareFile.

OneDrive will not sync a OneNote book over multiple devices if you don't use OneDrive. Not a problem for you, obviously, but as a GDrive user it's pretty obnoxious to have to have OneDrive active on all of my machines to serve one application.

Source of the post I've been getting baked goods
In that case, switch around the baked goods and give them back to your employees.
