No, it was a 5-minute introduction to the team kind of deal. His name was on the slide, I just forgot to mention it verbally. I just personally apologized to him, and to the rest of the team for missing his name. I don't know, I won't make this mistake next time.

It was kind of out of character for him, but I posted in slack immediately that I screwed up, and he gave me the snark after the meeting was over so it could have been a joke. I felt it was an apologize and move on moment. I at least owned it and made sure to apologize to him on the phone with others.

As I become increasingly disinterested at my job, I have decided I no longer wish to manage people...I want to manage money...I see a little niche I can carve for myself as liaison between accounting and our vendors...it doesn't currently exist (the position I am apparently gunning for), but I'm confident I can make it exist...this will serve as a means of entertaining myself for the time being...

That's called Treasury Management and it is a real job, assuming your company has enough in receivables to make it worth managing and investing your revenue.

Thanks. If you really wanted to give a certain slant, you could make a legitimate point that our entire company is just one big billing aggregator...so I know we have enough push and pull in that regard...

It's a 35 year old company that started with like one guy just doing some stuff...and it grew into what it is now...as such, there's still some things that are done like it's a 20-employee, mom & pop shop...for instance, this is the first year in company history that there's a legitimate budget (!)...so I see how we handle our vendors, it's a mess...all the information is siloed in different departments, they don't talk, but they share vendors...I can see a scenario where I can fix all that...and not have to deal with dummies internally so much...

What is it with people who chat on the phone while they go to the bathroom at work? Was in a stall earlier and guy gets in stall next to mine and starts taking a dump and he is yakking away on his phone to what sounded like a client. They were talking financials. Seemed like sensitive information.

Another time a guy came to urinal next to mine and had his phone rested in between his face and his shoulder yakking away to (probably) a colleague about how they deceived a competitor to get a better deal with a client (he even used real company names).

Not only is it gross and weird, but you don't know who is taking a leak or crap next to you in a bathroom so watch what you say. Or maybe, talk on he phone at your desk/office? Security awareness, people!

How about a throwback story? At my last job, there was a guy who once asked one of our admins - who was an Asian woman - and I quote: "Linda, why do you always look so tired? Your eyes never seem to be fully open."

He was dead serious, and when we heard this, I thought I was going to pass out from how hard I was laughing at it.

That's one thing I miss about the USMC. Knowing the impossibility of being fired led to a lot of open and honest discussion. Like, the day we were called together to discuss the DADT repeal...yeah, that's wasn't how it was done in the corporate world.

I would have fired him on the spot. Not for being racially insensitive, but for being an absolute moron. No way he was competent at his role unless it was getting kicked in the pills for 8 hours a day.
