I mean his idea isn't a bad one at all honestly. No one in my company is really doing any work today anyways. Just lots of venting and such after the town hall this morning.

not to mention how much money my company would save by being fully remote

Naw, the people who took the day off are just at the top of the list for the second round of cuts. Bunch of snowflakes.

On a side note my company built a huge brand new building down near Bakery Square next to the big "G" right as the pandemic hit. We started with occupying floors 1/4/5/6/7/9. Last year they subleased the 7th floor, now they are sub leasing the 5th and 6th floors as well due to attendance being lower than anticipated with the hybrid approach (also we have way less employees now haha).
They won't just give up the building, but it ended up being a huge sunk cost with how things have turned out with both remote work and layoffs. Pretty soon we might be lucky to occupy two floors.

The one where the CEO can't direct employee workflow? Does sound nice.

I think this is a big thing that many people don’t understand or refuse to see. Unmotivated employees are inefficient. That’s the belief behind why the four day work week concept is successful: employees who believe you actually care about them will work harder for youI mean his idea isn't a bad one at all honestly. No one in my company is really doing any work today anyways. Just lots of venting and such after the town hall this morning.
I suppose when going down the motivation route, you can go with the carrot or the stick. Musk took Twitter down the stick route and it was disastrous imo. No good engineer would be dumb enough to work for that jabroni
But much to Shysters dismay, I believe companies DO have to compete for top talent if they want to really excel and me, personally, am attracted to companies who genuinely care about their workforce.
I do actually want to start my own business at some point; I have what I consider to be a hell of an idea and I have a game plan laid out to eventually get in front of investors. One of the bases of what I am envisioning is a company that people want to work for because the company treats them well. Often times I think people conflate that with just higher compensation but don’t realize that there are a lot of other possible motivators such as a four day work week
I saw first hand how dumbly my last company treated employees and it lead to a mass exodus of very talented pre-IPO employees like myself and many of my friends. I think we all would’ve stayed if the company bothered to listen to us. Maybe I’m too idealistic and will fail miserably but personally I don’t think companies need to be run as heartless money making machines. You get employee buy in by treating them well and if you get employee buy in, you will become a great organization

so an example of that in skull man’s company: who knows how the percentages break down but there’s likely many people who are upset at the layoffs and probably aren’t doing much of anything today and those who are motivated to work either out of fear, that’s how they cope or because they see opportunity. I would offer everyone the opportunity to take a day off this week if they want it as a mental health day. The people who aren’t doing any work aren’t missed because they weren’t going to do much anyway with the added benefit of them trusting the company a little more while those who want to work can still work if they want to

MIMH coming in with the accurate heat.if giving people on day off bankrupts the company then it was never going to succeed to begin with

Super annoying when you have an urgent meeting with 2-3 people, and those people expand the list all damn day - only to have to move it because there are now too many people on the invite.

I feel like half my time is spent pulling reports and dashboards together for the board/senior leadership these days. @meow, is this my future?

"People just don't want to work these days..." turned into massive layoffs quick, fast, and in a hurry.

If I knew I'd tell you. Unfortunately I guess it's "wait and see if you can login tomorrow or if HR calls". Because a subsequent email from my CEO (Ground) said manager and above.

Yea, it's pretty scummy what's happening and all this pro-work corporate nonsense about coming together, working hard, being in office, etc.
Tell me why I need to conform to anything you want when you're willing to cut at the drop of a reduced profitability? All the more reason to not compromise on anything.
