I have to imagine that you’re an oddity, robbie. Those conditions are definitely not conducive to employee satisfaction in most cases. My company is terrific overall, which only a few exceptions (two of them being C level). My team especially makes it enjoyable; all technically strong, and all of our personalities mesh really well.

It’s cheaper to keep an employee than to attract a new one. My experience is if you want the fat stacks, yo, you go work for a competitor. That said, I’ve been work from home for three years with occasional travel to Redondo Beach and Co Springs. I peg the price of voluntarily going back to the office at north of $50K raise.

Agreed Ted. My biggest raises were always when I switched companies. Working for a competitor? My company got in trouble by colluding with their competitor to not hire away each other's employees.

NTP, I had a previous job where I performed well, got bonuses, pension, more than 2-3% raises - but I hated the job. Wouldn't go back there for anything.

So I've pretty much decided that I'm just going to say I'm going to prioritize new requests and start slowing down the rate at which I deliver a bit. Knowing what I know now, the incentive to over-deliver is no longer there, so I'm going to stop stressing about it.

In the meantime, I'm also reaching out to the other person who started recruiting me within the company.

Well I accepted a new position within my company, got a 5 percent bump (still in the same pay band). Should have less operational stress and more freedom to design new stuff, and lot of visibility within upper management. Not a bad day.

Just had a guy ask me the status of a project that was completed over two months ago.

The young guy who beat me out for Division Director just announced yesterday he is leaving in a month. Just short of three years here.

Guess I get another shot...I’m a glutton for punishment.

Imagine working for an employer that wants to get rid of a problematic groundskeeper. So it decides to randomly piss test ALL of the groundskeepers to try to get rid of the one bad apple. So out of 10 such groundskeepers/physical plant guys making $10 an hour, 6 failed the drug test and get fired. Including the bad apple, but now these other guys are out of jobs.

I get that it’s a right to work state, and you can get fired without cause, but if one job or role got a pass on drug testing it should be the guys working outside all day long. Give me a break.

Especially making 10 bucks an hour. Though, I'm sure there's something insurance related to running equipment (eg lawn mowers) that you have to drug test..

My coworkers threw me a "dad" baby shower yesterday...it wasn't a crazy affair, just some cake, some presents (including a couple things for my daughter, which was appreciated). Honestly, it's great to be in a workplace where you have such great friendships with your colleagues. One perk of working in an office with mostly females

I will say that I am very, very well-liked in the office. I always try to be pleasant, helpful, and I think I'm viewed as the adorable dad who loves his little girl and hangs pictures/artwork in my office. And I'm OK with that, tbh. :)

I had a diaper/wipes shower when we had our second baby (11 years ago next week!!) - it was awesome. We were set for both for almost six months.

How do you guys handle people who say a bunch of stuff, without actually saying anything of value?

I ask one guy a question at work, and I get a 10-minute explanation that doesn't answer my question, and just feel like it's always time-wasting.

I've told people before at work give me the cliff notes version of something in that case.

I'm up front and tell them that they didn't actually answer my question.

I do a lot of half-serious stuff because I'm known as the class clown here...so there's multiple times where I've said, "In 100 words or less, why did this happen..." and then I'll double down on it if they run long "we're at like 106 right now, let's wrap it up" but it's with a smile or a chuckle to keep it light, but it also gives me a free out...

Like a dull knife
Just ain't cutting
Just talking loud
Then saying nothing
Just saying nothing
Just saying nothing
You can't tell me
How to run my life down
You can't tell me
How to keep my business sound

I communicate with these types of people via email.

I avoid said people unless it's absolutely necessary. And if it is necessary, email is a good way to go.

That's largely it, I work with people that are coming from high-degree backgrounds, and they all take forever to get to the point if they get there at all.
