Landed a job at one of Pittsburgh's tech companies. I am stoked to finally start looking for a house.
What kind of tech job? Or is it non tech but at a tech company?

Non tech. Its a management position within the ops part of the company. It is one of the companies working on autonomous vehicles.

We made an offer to some woman for a position at one of our locations last Wednesday. The respond-by date was last Friday. My coordinator tried calling her earlier this week, no response. I call her this morning and leave a message that we are rescinding the offer, and my coordinator sent the official email confirming the same. 15 minutes later, she gets this response (via email):

I am filling everything out to day sorry

She asked me what I wanted to do, and I told her to respond with "The position is no longer available." WTF is wrong with people? You get a freaking career opportunity that you took the time to apply and interview for, and you can't bother yourself to even respond to the offer? The work ethic of some people down here never ceases to amaze me.

The offer is expired. That's life. Unless she has a humdinger of an excuse...but even then...

You wouldn't (or probably would) believe how many people do this. Instead of just telling me they are no longer interested in the role and preserving a relationship, they would rather drop off the face of the earth and try to hide from us. It's the most bizarre social behavior I've seen in this industry. Dodged a bullet IMO.

Rejection makes people uncomfortable. That's understandable. But our staunch unwillingness to engage in that with people that we'll likely never see again is interesting to me, if nothing else...

I had an applicant, who cancelled the day before her Skype interview. She was so neurotic about the explanation, that I just went on to the next candidate. She's been here for 18 months and I couldn't be happier with her work.
Fate, it seems.

Every time we interview for positions, there's always one person who lists a number of accomplishments on their resume, but when you ask them about those accomplishments, the response is always "well, I was on the team that did this, but didn't really have much of a role". I would never list something on my resume that I couldn't back up.

And if you can't answer any questions about it, or reply with what I wrote above, that would be the end of the interview. I get that it helps get you to the actual interview, but at that point, you're just wasting everyone's time.

Right. It's about projecting your ability to manage and lead.

I think we're talking about two different scenarios. You're talking about management, I'm talking about engineers.

You don't understand. I talk with the customers so the engineers don't have to.

Anyone else in a consulting position that has moved to a new job that is non-consulting? My past two employers I got an itch to leave after three years and I am at that point with this employer. I hate consulting and most of the work I do now, I feel like a change is needed. But I work from home and do occasional work travel (which I kind of like, but nothing on the horizon for awhile) now and hate to give that up...argh.
