I'm leaving here in about an hour... boss said "leave early". Gave no indication of when "early" is.

In a related story, ol' Mikey Tax Brackets got himself yet another raise (double digit percentage, five digit stuff) this week as I take over as VP of Biz Dev.
I'm up ~50% in the last 12 months or so I believe...
I'm actually going to quit coaching for now, for a number of reasons, but having that extra income is no longer worth it...still a weird roller coaster in the last handful of months. Clawing for a deserved raise and getting the run-around, being on the chopping block from a new regime, getting a small, undeserved raise while still on the chopping block, to replacing the "family" in the family business and obtaining a senior leadership position with a ****** journalism degree...

I love when companies do the position normalization thing and everyone gets arbitrary titles
I’m an officer, apparently. Why? Who knows. But it gets the people going

We acquired a company whose job titles are a level or two above where they are in my company. I'm a lowly Sr. Manager but in their company I'd be a Director if not a Sr. Director.
I'll be interested in whether they normalize or not and if so do we get boosted or do they get downgraded?
One of my best friends is just a Manager and has been battling to get Sr. added to her title, now she has peers who are directors. It's easy to say- well, you're compensated the same but it does matter. We have one Sr. Director, two Directors and four Sr. Managers in our department. In theirs they have one VP, at least 5 Directors and probably 20 Managers.

Congratulations Mikey! I guess you will have to decide if you think being a coach is a reward in itself, a k a not doing it for the money. However, I am still flabbergasted about how you manage to perform decently at work while committing a bazillion hour to hockey and not living alone.
I still believe that we over educate people, btw. It should be better to develop talents at companies than universities unless the students would like to pursue academic careers.

Thanks, the time is actually a big factor. I don't want to do three things at 70% anymore. I can do two at 100% though. Scouting has more upside. Faster path to the top. I had a pro Swedish team reach out and ask for some help from me recently, I have some NHL teams tracking me...coaching college hockey was fun and rewarding, but it's a full time job on its own. I just can't do everything anymore...I need to make time for myself.

Good luck with the scouting stuff, Mikey. Send some good AHLers to Örebro (or Linköping where I currently live)
It is hard to just focus on one thing even if I should. Work go afford stuff, exercising/ competing in sports, family life and get some sleep...

Boss took my co-worker and me to lunch today. It's crazy that a burger and fries cost like $26, and whatever they got from the asian cuisine place cost almost 60$ at the galley here in Bakery Square. It was expensed so it doesn't matter, but that's just silly.

Was just asked if I'd be a member of a team to lead the organization's transition from being privately owned to becoming an ESOP. It'll be fun to see all the ins and outs of this process. Looking forward to being a decision maker on that level.

So, ended up going to managing a team of 4 to 12, with an ask to take on more strategic work, but because of 2023, no raise or promotion. Womp Womp, the faith I had in this company has been demolished lately. About all I can do right now, is take the job - get the experience and get money on the next one.
