You work for Captain Holt...?Slightly on topic but I just learned today that our director is moving on from a candidate (who was on the last round of interviews and was clearly the front runner) because he had a grammatical error in his "thank you" email. He improperly used a comma. This would have no impact on his job duties, as it's not like he's an editor/proofer. So.. yeah, that **** is mostly out of your hands man.

Improperly how? If you director took issue with the wonderfulness of an Oxford comma then I hope he chokes on a banana.Slightly on topic but I just learned today that our director is moving on from a candidate (who was on the last round of interviews and was clearly the front runner) because he had a grammatical error in his "thank you" email. My weird ass “record yourself” interview led to a second (and final) round Zoom interview, where the hiring managers couldn’t figure out how to get their webcam to work so I was on camera and they were on the phone and sounded like they were underwater. Weirdest interview process I’ve been involved in.

So they hired a chemist to do itEngineers need someone to talk to the people.

Engineers don’t need people to talk to. We don’t want people to talk to us.

I haven't mentioned it itt because I didn't want to jinx it, but I just got the hard no so I suppose there's no harm in sharing.
I just spent the last month in the interview pipeline at SpaceX, including a 45-minute phone call with the GC who came to the company after 16 years at Lucasfilm. It was absolutely enthralling spending time on the phone with people who casually drop phrases like "interplanetary civilization" into their discourse as if they're talking about the grocery list.

I was actually wondering what was up with you and your search and couldn't remember if there was an outcome or not...
Sucks to hear that, but that's gonna be as unique of an interview experience as anyone could ever have...I think it was your line that you know enough to be annoying at parties, well you could probably lose half of your trivia knickknacks for this story haha

Sorry you didn't land the job. I think working for SpaceX would be neat, although Musk does have a reputation of being a slave driver when it comes to work hours.

Sorry to hear, but you will be glad you didn’t. While Musk has done a lot to drive technology and innovation, he isn’t the best when it comes to his workforce and I would never want to work there. This is coming from someone who currently works at a place that is known for being overly harsh to some workers.I haven't mentioned it itt because I didn't want to jinx it, but I just got the hard no so I suppose there's no harm in sharing.

The GC straight up said "My career has been defined by evil geniuses." lolSorry you didn't land the job. I think working for SpaceX would be neat, although Musk does have a reputation of being a slave driver when it comes to work hours.
Apparently when Musk comes to Hawthorne, he works out of a cubicle like everyone else. They have conference rooms, but no individual offices.
Honestly, not wanting to sledgehammer the thing, but I'm really gutted over this. This is something bigger than making and selling widgets, and I really wanted to be a part of it; they're out to change the course of human civilization. That's a bit bigger than learning the ins and outs of NFL TV blackout rules. I'm just...... *sigh*

'I monitor my staff with software that takes screenshots'
GTFO with that ****.Shibu Philip admits he knows what it's like to "maybe waste a bit of time at work".
Shibu is the founder of Transcend - a small London-based firm that buys beauty products wholesale and re-sells them online.
For the last year and a half he has used Hubstaff software to track his workers' hours, keystrokes, mouse movements and websites visited.
With seven employees based in India, he says the software ensures "there is some level of accountability" and helps plug the time difference.
"I know myself. [You can] take an extra 10-minute break here or there. It's good to have an automatic way of monitoring what [my employees] are up to," says Shibu.
"By looking at screenshots and how much time everyone is taking on certain tasks, I know if they're following procedures.
"And, if they're doing better than I expected, I also study the photos and ask them to share that knowledge with the rest of the team so we can all improve," he says.

You shouldn't have time to spy on your employees to that degree.

If you manage people and you feel the need to have them observed to that degree, YOU are the problem.
