This ticket just came into our queue (for the O365 guys):

Manager recently sent email to employee xx@xx on 9/1/21 @ 1:52pm. I would like to know if the email was delivered successfully and whether or not the employee opened up to read.

 GTFO with that ****.

I hate read receipts with a passion and never attach them to my emails so I can see the need for that question....

However, that email went through dumb dumb, get an employee who pays attention.

Or question what you're sending through email if it's that critical. Seems weird to bring a third party into the fight lol.

Yeah. I have no idea if they're going to honor the request, or just say 'we can't do that' and call it a day. Seems like a petty request to me that cannot possibly end well.

Additional pro tip - sit on a chair that doesn't swivel.

Another pro tip, when talking, make eye contact with your camera lens instead of looking at the other person.

Traditionally, this would be a day and half interview, on campus. It's a **** grind, trust me, for all parties (well more so for the applicant). Normally, I'd wear a sportscoat and tie. But I'm not doing that to sit in front of the PC all day. Business casual, no? That's what I would wear to that job fwiw.

If you time cranking one out correctly, you won't have time to put on pants anyway

Have a few people that are hardcore video callers for meetings. I hate it.

As in, they always have their camera turned on? In our team meetings, I'd say that it's 50/50. I turn mine on every 3rd meeting so that I'm not always keeping it off, but nobody actually cares.

Our company is at 0% video on. I think we even convinced our customer, who were 90/10 video, into anti-videoists.

I've only turned my camera on for interviews we did virtually... that's it. Any other time it's always off.

I have thus far managed to avoid video calls. They have only done 2 since this started. The first time I couldn't figure out how to get mine to work. Turned out there was a setting blocking it.

The second time was conveniently while I was on vacation. :)

These were just to "celebrate" contracts we won though, no one cares about seeing each other for std stuff thankfully.

We do the old “only turn camera on while talking” which is a good compromise in my opinion. I’m consistently the only one in a t shirt or hoodie because I refuse to wear a collared shirt in my home.

When the initial lockdown hit our VPN couldn't handle everyone switching to working remote. So they asked us to not use video in meetings when possible. Despite us upgrading the VPNs it's now part of our culture not to use video, which is fine.

Some companies must mandate it, I rarely turn it on for internal calls. Maybe if it's like an introductory call or something, but otherwise no. But clients always seems to show up to the call with their camera on.

My office is in the guest room, most of the time my dogs are just sleeping on the bed all day, but there was one time they were aggressively wrestling in the background.
