Houston is impossible to drive around/through, but you should expect that from a large city.
Although, I do like how Texas has elevated highways through commercial areas with feeder roads to take the local traffic. Wish they would do that here for Route 22, McKnight Road, Route 51, etc.
Lots of decent food in Houston as well. I found some decent places with microbrews when I went for work.

I am in Houston every other week for work right now and I have a lot of great friends there. It is a place I would never live due to the weather but your mileage may vary. The burbs are pretty good, the city itself can be iffy. I stay downtown usually and it's pretty dead after everyone goes home but a lot of cities are like that. Public transportation is inadequate for a city of its size. You have to rent a car or Uber from the airport.
The craft beer scene is excellent. Karbach is my favorites and I import their stuff back to PA all the time. Great mex, steaks, and seafood.

I love our cost control methods at the office.
Send 25 women to a 'women leadership conference' in San Diego is OK. (for the record if it was a 'men' leadership conference I'd feel the same way)
Order lunch for a 10 person meeting NO FREAKIN WAY

Jackson St. BBQ.Might be relocating to Houston for my job- pretty excited about that. I'm currently in town for the week and hearing great things from the locals - besides the traffic and flood/weather issues of course.

We went to Pinkerton's while we were there and it was incredible. Get there early though as they sell out of meats pretty quickly. We sat out on the deck with our giant pile of food, and pounders of lonestar for $1 each. Great times were had.

There's a family down there that owns a lot of the restaurants, right?
They had a Mexican joint that was amazing. Though, all Mexican down there was.
Pappadeaux's I think?

Yeah the Pappa family
Pappadeaux is seafood (good), Papacitos is Mex (good but you can find better), Pappas is BBQ (skip it, almost any other bbq joint in Texas is better. Especially avoid the one downtown on Smith. I got a brisket and pulled pork combo platter there once, the brisket was basically a mound of fat and it was like they dumped an entire container of salt on the pulled pork.)

It's been a long year, but....
My boss just let me know she put in for a 5% increase for 2020, as well as for a significant bonus (five figures) for my efforts this year. I feel like jumping around the house...damn this feels good.

my phone interview for the open position at my office must've gone well. they've scheduled an in-person interview for next Wednesday. it'll be my first in-person interview in 7 years but I'll know everyone in the room. one will be the guy who almost backed over me with a truck back in September.

Four days and a wakeup and I'm done with this **** place for the year. Can. Not. Wait.
The ultimate kick in the nuts is requiring all faculty to attend the Fall graduation ceremony, which is held Saturday morning at 8am because our sucky basketball teams need the gym (so they can get blown out) for games later that afternoon. But checking the schedule, they are actually playing in Tennessee that day. WTF? Why not make it Friday night? dadholes.

Just got word that they're putting a ping pong table in the employee cafe. I'm irrationally excited about this.
