He always seemed like a good dude and even knew everybody in the office by name, which is impressive considering the size of the company. But that comment is certifiably insane.

I'd like to see that guy squeeze something the size of a watermelon out of an opening in his body the size of a lemon and see how he's feeling a few weeks later. Our CEO actually said to a pregnant employee that coming back to work after only a few weeks "builds character."

Agreed. I know there was quite an uprising following that and the policy changed a bit, but it still **** over new employees who don't have a lot of vacation time built up. So they use their vacation time for maternity leave and then don't have any more PTO should their newborn get sick or something come up.
I tend to think 2 weeks is too short for paternity leave, also. But this is coming from somebody without kids so I don't really know.

Two weeks worked well for me. That said, if my wife was having issues, I'd have taken more time.
Job and General Employment Thread
I received 3 weeks paid leave. My wife had something like 6 and then had to take FMLA for the last 6 but that was standard I guess.
No way, would I imagine giving birth and having to go back two weeks later.

That's what my previous employer's maternity leave was, as well.Source of the post My wife had something like 6 and then had to take FMLA for the last 6 but that was standard I guess.

In addition to your normal vacation time.Is it a policy that just states you can use 2 weeks of your own vacation time for paternity leave, or something outside of using your own time? If the former, that's how my last two employers handled it.
My coworker's wife (also an employee) gave birth in October, and he took one week then, and is taking one week between christmas and new years.

I know guys get 3 weeks here(used to be two). You can split it up however you want, just has to be used within one year of birth. This is separate from your normal time off and is paid.
I believe women get 6 weeks paid time off again separate from vacation etc.
I won't ever use it as we don't plan on having kids, but I think it's a great benefit for those who do and something that should be available everywhere.

We get nothing as of today. If you want to take off, use your vacation time

Automated email after I approved an expense report: "Approval status set to: Approved"
Email I just got with that email attached: "What's wrong with my report, it's only for parking?"
No amount of training can fix that.

Had kids in 2010, 2012, 2013. I got nothing and my wife worked at a non-profit company so small they didn't have to abide by FMLA so she had to save up vacation.
I find it hard to believe our kids turned out as well as they did.

These three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are a painful. I have little to no motivation coming back from Thanksgiving, and then all of a sudden Christmas break is upon me in a week or so and any motivation that I regained goes right out the window again.

Yeah, we have like nothing going on right now. And I usually take Monday and/or Fridays off for deer season too.

This is typical across the US I think. Can't get any suppliers to commit to dates before the end of the year. And if they do, you know the parts aren't coming until after the New Year. These three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are a painful. Might be relocating to Houston for my job- pretty excited about that. I'm currently in town for the week and hearing great things from the locals - besides the traffic and flood/weather issues of course.

Buddy of mine works in a decidedly non-sexy industry (office furniture manufacturing), so one of his company’s recently instituted methods for appealing to millennial talent was to drastically increase the amount of PTO. Unlimited sick days, 25 vacation days, a month of paid paternity leave, three months paid maternity leave, and three extra weeks of paid “child bonding” leave.

my cousin lives in Houston and I've visited a few times. IMO downtown Houston is bad, but many cities downtown areas are. suburban areas are better (my cousin lives in Cypress?) but I find the lack of zoning laws kind of weird. it makes for some really bizarre areas.Might be relocating to Houston for my job- pretty excited about that. We have quite a few large customers in Houston, so I visit from time to time. The humidity is hell, but if you find a nice area, it can be a really great place to live. A buddy of mine lives quite a bit out from the city (Alvin) and he loves it. Lots of good food and beer choices.
