I got someone fired, though it was through my normal job duties but I still feel bad in a way.
All of our IT workers have to have a baseline certification in the system and maintain it. One of our contractor techs put in for an elevated privilege account and when I was validating his credentials I saw that his A+ certification had lapsed less than a week prior. Turns out he can't get it renewed fast enough so they're releasing him at the end of the month.

He needed to be fired. He was production manager but in 16ish months didn't learn the product line at all. Was wholly incapable of doing his job.

Been there. Happened about four months after she hired me away from the company where we had previously worked together. My boss got fired today.
And I'm sure it had absolutely nothing to do with the ongoing gender discrimination claims about the CEO that were under investigation at the time....

I mean, if it will take him ten months to renew the cert, that's one thing. But if it's like four or five weeks? There's no wiggle room, no way to give him other duties in the interim?I got someone fired, though it was through my normal job duties but I still feel bad in a way.

He has to retake the test because he blew through the grace period by not doing any of his required continuing education. It left our site without any of that particular kind of admin and the contracting company was pretty pissed about it because they had to send someone from Philly out to do the work.I mean, if it will take him ten months to renew the cert, that's one thing. Maintaining certification is a very fundamental requirement to work in this industry, just a really bad lapse on his part. The shitty thing is we have an incredibly hard time retaining techs here but this guy is getting walking papers.

Firing over an A+ cert? Jesus.

It's a baseline certification, it can be almost anything but his happened to be A+. Weird thing is the guy is a bit too young to remember when CompTIA certs were lifetime, not CE, so I don't know how he didn't do anything at all to renew.
I use my CISSP as my baseline and let my Sec+ lapse.
I never took A+ because I was more interested in MCSA/MCSE, etc.
Did you know I am a CISSP? I am.

I haven’t bothered with any certs since my last Citrix CCA cert, which I’m sure has since expired.

Never underestimate the amount of acronyms in information services. We have so many acronyms at work that I’ve forgotten what some of them even actually stand for now.

If a holiday is a federal/national holiday, the day should be off for everyone.

The first time since I've been at my current employer, MLK Jr. day is a college-wide holiday. In the past, classes were canceled but it was still a work day for the staff and 12 month faculty (such as myself).
So an email went out at the beginning of the calendar year, with all of the 2019 holidays. Special mention to MLK day, as it was new.
Five minutes later, an email from my supervisor that basically said - yeah, everyone else gets that day off except for you. My building has to be open for an admissions event.

It's holiday for all high schools, so it actually makes sense to hold it that day. One of the few things this place does that makes sense. What kind of dadhole schedules an admissions event on MLK Jr. Day?
For instance, they decided to make the first women's restroom door handicap accessible. Just the women's room, because we have a woman in our building in a wheelchair. They ordered new hinges and the hardware, but it matched the opposing door (the men's room door). They sent it back to save money, instead of providing equal access to each restroom. This is typical behavior.
