So, at my place of employment, we use those yellow envelopes for sending documents through company mail. There are little boxes on either side that say 'Name':, and 'Department:', yet there are subhumans out there who instead feel the need to right across the entire envelope with what I guess is an industrial permanent marker.

These people are designated for mikey's wheel.

I applied to a position near...Bruceton....which is just adjacent to South Park. Which means my commute would likely involve 28 and 51.

God help us.

Does anyone else feel like they spend half their day deleting unnecessary emails?

I've started applying filters to emails I've designated as useless. Right to archive.

The lack of a connection to the north and south hills is one of those strange Pittsburgh things. I grew up in the SH, my wife the NH. When we first started dating, it was like visiting another state. And with my parents still living south and us north, any visit requires a 1 hour drive each way for what amounts to 25 miles.

The other thing is that to get from our house in Latrobe, where we intend to move in ~2 years, takes the same exact amount of time to get to my current office downtown as it does to get to this place in Bruceton. I thought moving south/east of our current location might help, but, no.

what would the connection be? there are plenty of connections (roads) but they are crappy to navigate namely because roads in the SH are stupid

Factorial Sr used to drive through Bruceton as a short cut to Large, PA when he worked there. Bruceton has a U.S. Bureau of Mines facility.

When I was trying to get back to PA from WI I came across a lot of Bureau of Mines job listings for WV/PA/MD. I've applied to the National Energy Technology Laboratory in this instance, though.

The last time I was there a few years ago the area where Westinghouse was looked to be all boarded up and ratty looking but it probably was always ratty looking there.

I believe the place I go to used to be part of the old Westinghouse test facility. It's on 51 near the intersection of 43.

The division was called the Astronuclear Laboratory and then Advanced Energy Systems:

Yep, read up on it. There's a company that does shock and vibration testing as well as environmental chamber testing that is in the building where your dad used to work.

Also, the Montour bike trail goes right by. I used to bike from McKeesport to Bethel Park on the trail and would bike right through the parking lot to cross 51 to the other side of the trail.

As soon as my direct report went out on maternity leave, my workload fcking exploded. It amazes me how that works. I didn't leave the office until 6:00 last night and am probably not going to leave until 6:00 tonight. I hate this.

What’s “amazing” about that? Shouldn’t that either be expected, or you did some kind of planning to avoid this situation?

The workload has been consistent for two years, and I had confidence that I could cover her requisitions for the three month period. It was just a matter of a ton of sudden resignations in our offices, etc.

We have a part time HR Assistant that is helping me by running all the background checks, updating the spreadsheets, etc. AKA all of the administrative bullsht I don't have time for. I'll be fine... Just gotta work my ass off for a few months and talk to a lot of candidates.

Tbh, a part of me kind of relishes the challenge.
