I know that some interviews have been “strongly suggested” but are nothing more than courtesy interviews. I like to point out the requirements so they don’t have any confusion when they aren’t chosen.I interview quite a few people. These folks are either a. socially inept or b. like having some pseudo-power by being the interviewer. Anyone that interviews someone and says "we want someone with XYZ" and the candidate doesn't have it...what the hell are you even doing interviewing them? And if that isn't really a requirement, then why say it? Interviewing is not hard, but damn it some people make it hard.

Courtesy interviews just seem like a waste of everyone's time
Edit: and by "seem" I mean "are". I don't know why anyone puts themselves or candidates through it.

Work wants us to get down to 80 hours of PTO to avoid extreme decisions, like layoffs. That means I'd need to take off 2 days per pay period from now until the end of the year to meet that goal.

Interviews in general are stupid. Experience is over rated. I care more about what you're going to do than what you did. If you made it to the interview phase, you have presumably met the qualifications.
I dont stick to a script at all. Biggest thing is are we vibing and are you someone I feel like i can partner with to get **** done.

I don't want to take full weeks off, outside of Christmas week. Took Thanksgiving, and then basically every other Friday. Need to figure out when to take the others... probably Wednesdays so that others can take Mondays.Thanksgiving to New Years should get you close

We've been cautioned against that because everyone has so much time and we can't all be out for the holidays. Been taking every other Monday and will probably step up with a few extra days around then.Thanksgiving to New Years should get you close

The all-day interview I detailed on the last page......... they had filled the senior position on their team, and were looking for a more junior candidate when they called me in to interview. I sorta knew going in I wasn't getting the gig, but I wanted the interviewing reps - right up to the point when I got the itinerary and saw they were committing me to a full work day of meetings.Courtesy interviews just seem like a waste of everyone's time

Guys..... you know going in that you want someone more junior than me. You are doing both of us a disservice here.

A number of jobs ago, I had to come in 4 times, each time to interview with a different person. One person, 30-45 minutes each time, per day. That was the only job I ever left after just one year. Every job since then has been a 1-2 hour roundtable interview, which I very much prefer.

I almost have my PTO bank up to the point of maximum carry over... not taking a vacation this year has helped a ton. I'm excited for the prospect of "You have to take time off now".

we have our interview system down to a science. First 30 minutes is with the person you will be reporting to and their boss. Then the same level of people from a companion team for 30 minutes. Then the seniors on the team you are applying for for 30 minutes. Then the seniors from the companion team for 30 minutes. Two to four people per session. In and out in two hours.

This particular place I've done 5 interviews now, spread over like 3 months... I'd much rather a one day thing

COVID kind of seems to have thrown a wrench in things. They delayed to try and do in person with the team and then that obviously is not possible for a long time.Three months?! Oh **** that.

You know you found a good issue when the engineer that's worked on them for years hasn't seen this error code before.

Interviewing people over Teams/Zoom is an interesting experience. Did one yesterday, have two today to do, and two more tomorrow. I had to actually fix my hair and put on a polo for this since we turned our cameras on.

We went through a few rounds of interviews in Teams in March, right before they froze all positions. We’re trying to rescue a guy from another group, but who knows when we’ll be able to proceed, even with it being an internal transfer.

This guy we are interviewing now has bandwith issues so we had to turn off cameras...he won't stop talking. Just on and on and on and on. Nice guy though.
It's also weird basically having someone that would be on a team that they are building around me as the "leader" and him being probably 30 years my senior. I always worry about resentment.

My last three managers were all younger than me, albeit not that much younger. I never had issues with this because they were all good managers.
