 Nothing nefarious. I just mean I often need to reference old emails to either remember what I'm supposed to be doing or defend why I did something. There's nothing more satisfying than getting called out for doing something "wrong" and responding "According to the attached email you sent on _____, you asked me to do exactly what I did."

Yeah, I'm 100% with you on this. E-mail has saved me more than once.

I don’t have issue with a phone call in that situation, but I do immediately email the person with exactly what they told me on the phone and tell them I will begin work as soon as they confirm I documented everything properly

:thumb: I'm going to steal this. Although still annoying that they just made more work for me.

Oh it is definitely annoying, but I understand some people have to talk through things and hear their own voice and are not as comfortable communicating through email.

If I email you asking a specific question, please do not call me on the phone to respond. I emailed you because I either didn't want to talk to you, didn't have the time to talk to you, or wanted your response documented for future use. Thank you.

I’d reach out and clarify. If a potential employee said they weren’t willing to leave their job for my open position, I’d trash their resume
If an employer said "i want to hire you but i want to try you out first" I'd trash their interview, unless of course I knew that going in.
It’s a probationary period, albeit an atypical one.
Seems too risky and I dont like that. I assume you take this 1099 offer with no formal time frame that you are stuck as a 1099? As a 1099 you are expected to quit your current position.. thus losing all medical and retirement benefits for the duration of time as a 1099?

No way.

Oh it is definitely sketchy and I am not condoning it, but companies are looking at every avenue to cut costs and not hiring employees, but independent contractors is a thing now.

If you're going to 1099 me. I'm going to do the work when I see fit to fulfill the obligation. I've heard of "contract to hire" but not that type of situation.

atypical, but I wouldn't ever jeopardize a current job for a chance at another one.

Yeah, I'm the same. Don't mind talking it over on the phone. Sometimes provides clarity.

However, if needed, I do the "per our conversation" email and list out everything just to have it documented.

I have a former colleague (no, not Stan) that just started at a local, shall we say, insurance company conglomerate at a fairly high level position as a 1099-try-out. Couldn't believe it. At that level, at that company. They're also known to be very weird about the "personality test" that they make everyone take before hire, so maybe that was the reason? In any case, can't say I'd do it. Not only do I get to work for you, but I get all the heavy lifting with taxes too? Even though I'm a tax person, eff that.

I am late to the party, but nevertheless ;)

I would never leave my current job for a tryout unless
- I really wanted to leave my current job
AND
- I really wanted the other job

It should be possible to get a somewhat safe job in your field if you have some years of work experience.

There's a dude I work with that always brings problems and never brings solutions. It's infuriating, and I've gone from being passive aggressive to straight up rude. I have to stop myself from allowing myself from getting this angry especially with my boss on the phone.

Message to end user: I am currently in the process of transferring your data to your new laptop. Please do not close your lid (forgot to change power settings) or reboot your computer until the transfer of data has been completed.

I'll give you one guess what happened about ten minutes after I sent that message.

That person fell into a vat of boiling pig parts, thus rendering the data transfer as a complete waste of time because that person died from falling into the vat of boiling pig parts.

I attended a cocktail hour/dinner for medical residents in Center City last night (Continental Midtown, fun place). Went very well but damn, these guys and gals live in a world I can't even imagine financially.

On a side note, I made it from Center City Philly to my home in Lancaster County in 52 minutes. Average speed 60 mph for the whole duration of the trip. #winning

I probably walked by the window to that place on my way home...

Also, I hate that place. It stinks. Minus the roof. Rooftop bars of any regard are dope af...

52 minutes is good time though. A couple of Jack and Coke's go right to your right foot I see haha

Update from my post two weeks ago:

I just found out they went with someone else for the position I interviewed for. But then they said “we would love for you to do part time 1099 work for us. We are growing quickly and want to keep you in mind for future full time positions”.

What should I do here? Do you think they mean the part about keeping me in mind for future full time positions? I do know for a fact they are growing and obtaining more work. About a 50 person company.

I supppse I could the 1099 work in conjunction with my current full time job with benefits..
