That is downright reckless. We have a couple of those situations in my company right now, and I am exceedingly careful about ensuring that the job posting is confidential and it cannot be tied back to us (at least, not easily). Also, two weeks before they let me go I got an alert from LinkedIn that they were looking for someone with my title. There had been talk about new headcount for the team, so I thought that's what it was. Nope. Turns out, they posted for my position two weeks before pulling the you're-fired trigger. That seems a bit irresponsible.

Here's the Job.

They're doing the same thing they did with my posting, in that they re-filed a new listing a couple times during the recruiting process. So that listing says it's only been up for a day, but the job was first posted almost a month ago.

Now I see why you weren't a fit for the position.

Oh, and another thing: I was in the bonus pool. Most companies pay bonuses if you're an eligible employee as of the date of payout, but at PlayStation, it's structured as more like a 'roster bonus' at the end of the fiscal year. Their year runs 4/1 - 3/31.
Yeehaw.

Was contacted for a phone screen at the casual game company I sent my resume to on the day Sony nuked me. Reading up on their background and corporate culture, I got to perks and saw this: "We don’t believe in keeping track of vacation days."
Is this really a thing?
Also, they pay 100% of employee healthcare costs.

In my experience and in my research in this industry, the whole "unlimited PTO" policy is dangerous and a TERRIBLE idea. To begin with, you are immediately dividing employees by how much PTO they take versus the rest of the team. As such, all employees (or most) will feel pressure to not take more PTO than their colleagues, and it leads to a situation in which people actually end up taking less time off than they normally would under a conventional PTO plan.
To add to that, if you leave a company with PTO left accrued, you will generally cash out whatever balance you have. This will eliminate that. It is an exceedingly rare situation where a plan like this would work, and in most cases, it will cause resentment between employees because of the mindset "Oh, *he's* taking PTO again?".
I would never want to work for a company with that policy--just my opinion though. I would love to have another week or two though.

We’ve definitely discussed that topic before in this thread.

So take PTO and let everyone else bltch about it, what do you care how they feel? Get what you want out of your time here, if those automatons want to follow stupid, unwritten rules, that's their problem.

Here's a Contracts Administrator position from Epic Games (of Fortnite fame etc.): https://epicgames.avature.net/careers/J ... rator/3032
You could become a Hurricanes season ticket holder!
And you could have a nice nest egg to retire on with the differences in housing costs between CA and NC.
Edit: Vacation and sick leave are unlimited, with approval at Epic as well.

Tech 1: NTP, can you take a look at this? App X [which is being upraded as part of a massive project on Sunday] appears to be broken
Me: Sure thing, give me a few minutes to take a look
*two minutes later*
Me: Looks like the content attempting to be accessed doesn't exist at all on any of these clients (1000ish). Did somebody change something?
*ten minutes later while on a bridge line for this issue*
Complete **** moron on another IS team at work: I changed how the app accesses this stuff yesterday
Me: Dafuq? Did you tell anyone?
CFMOAISTAW: Um, no. Can you make the changes on the thick client side?
At this point, I took care of the issue and handed it off to the team responsible for deploying it, but JFC. What kind of dadhole makes a major change to our highest priority application two days before a major version upgrade in which it would throw errors on that many devices? I really hope he gets written up for this repeated behavior.

Dear recruiters: If you are going through the effort to keep your client's identity confidential, do not refer to them as a 'Fortune 10 company based in Cupertino' in your emails.

I worked in the staffing world for many years, and my God are a lot of recruiters stupid. I used to love when another recruiter would send out an email blast for a job opportunity, with the following subject line: "$$$$$$ GREAT OPPORTUNITY WITH BIG MONEY!!! $$$$$$$" Yeah....that's going to get your audience to open itDear recruiters: If you are going through the effort to keep your client's identity confidential, do not refer to them as a 'Fortune 10 company based in Cupertino' in your emails.

Okay, here's a weird one. Had two phone screens this week with the unlimited PTO company. HR on Monday, hiring manager on Tuesday. When the hiring manager called, the number came up as a 346 area code. No biggie, I still use my LA number. Call lasted about 30 minutes and generally went well*. Was told I'd hear about next steps later in the week. Today, I noticed I missed a call from a 346 number, checked my call light and sure enough it was the same number from Tuesday. No VM was left, so I decided I'd wait a bit and call hack. Before I made the call, my phone rang from the same number again. I answered....... and it was a recruiter from South Peninsula calling about a temp gig at a biotech company.
Do HR people use apps to spoof phone numbers?
* She is the first person I've interviewed with in 20 years who asked why I didn't finish school and did not have a paralegal certificate.
