I'm officially a "Success Advisor" I recruit people for the online division of a school. When they go to school I am also their academic advisor. I like it in theory but it can be very salesy at times.

Currently my official title is "Scientist"
In the fall, I will be heading to grad school for a PhD in chemistry.

@count2infinity did you look into recruiters? Many of the big chemical companies seem to only hire through specific recruiters. They also might help you find jobs that aren't sticklers about the "5+ years industry experience". If you look to smaller companies or startups, the "5+ years" is not really a thing, since they would have to pay too much for that type of person.

In the IT world job requirements are more 'suggestions' than 'rules.' If you read some private sector job requirements it makes for good comedy.

Seeking Desktop Support Specialist, must have current MCSE, CCNA, CISSP/PMP, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher and 5+ years experience. $40k/yr, available for on-call nights weekends.

I did briefly. I contacted one of them (Lab Support) and gave them a resume and then they called me and asked if I had time to talk to them, I said sure, and then for some reason they said they didn't have time at the time they called me and asked if they could call me back. I said sure, and they haven't called back.

Maybe I'll look into some of the scientific recruiters that are out there again.

Lab Support is awful, not surprised!

I know for Dow they do some hiring through Kelly services. Not sure if it is hiring at your education level, but you could check them out.

Agreed. I was discussing an IP PTZ camera with a customer. According to his email signature he is CCNA certified and has another one, but this IT manager didn't know what SFTP stood for.

Passed my Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam this morning. Six hour test, completed it in 1hr45min. You either know it or you don't. That exam was a total mind bend. I'm going to stay current until I die because I never want to do that again.

This ties in nicely with the promotion I'm working on that I mentioned in the IT thread. Great year unfolding for me.

Yeah, that's basically the only place I'd use it. I know people who list out all of their certs in their e-mail signature, and some who do it on their business cards. To me, that's a red flag for "I most likely have no idea what I'm talking about".

Any of yinz have experience using headhunters? I've worked in the financial services aspect of wealth management for the duration of my non-military career and want to get the hell out and move into another industry. Having my MBA has led to a bunch of final round interviews, only to be passed over for someone with industry experience. Thinking it might be time to bite the bullet and use a headhunter.

The company I was working for sells predatory and unable to be fulfilled warranties to homeowners in Kansas City. When I discovered this I went to my boss and asked him about it. He told me he knows and that upper management wont do anything to change it even though he brings it up often. I went to the executive in charge of my department and expressed my concerns and was told that if I don't like it then I can quit. So...I'm unemployed.
