I'm not a manager. I'm a senior developer basically, but I'd be looked at as the team lead I guess. That is what was discussed with my manager .. building a team around me blah blah.My last three managers were all younger than me, albeit not that much younger. I never had issues with this because they were all good managers.

I've had more interviews and interest the last three months than I had before March. I thought it would be quiet because less people hiring. This one place I had a first interview scheduled with a recruiter but I wasn't feeling well and asked to reschedule. He was nice about and was happy to reschedule. 12 hours later he emails me and said they offered the position to someone else. So someone else already had multiple interviews for this role before I had one interview? Didn't sit well with me I had no shot at that position anyway then unless I blew their socks off, so lots of competition out there.
I've done the Apple and Amazon dog and pony show of their multiple round interviews but had to do it virtually of course. It sucks I never interviewed there pre-COVID and got to do these in-person on their dime, oh well. A few people interviewing were clearly in their basement, pretty dimly lit. I never received offers but after those interviews, I don't think I would have liked working for those two places anyway.

My last team all Four of my employees were older than me. Age was not an issue per se although the only one who put in for the job liked to twist the knife a little when she knew an answer to something I didn’t.My last three managers were all younger than me, albeit not that much younger. I never had issues with this because they were all good managers.
Right now I have two definitely older, one younger, one not sure butI think about the same.my boss is a couple years younger than me I think.

I'm not a spring chicken (I'm 37), but two of these interviews have been with people who are over 50, and this last guy is like 42.

I don’t care how old anyone is. Just don’t slow any of us down or **** **** up and we’ll be good.

Sounds like you have a problem with people older than you working for you.I'm not a spring chicken (I'm 37), but two of these interviews have been with people who are over 50, and this last guy is like 42.

I don't. As I said I'm not a manager. They won't be working for me directly. It's just a personal thing I worry about that's all when it's talked about by my manager that they are building a "team" around me. I don't know why, maybe I worry that someone with that much experience will look down on me if I'm designated as the leader of the team (even if I don't necessarily want that). It will be an interesting dynamic.Sounds like you have a problem with people older than you working for you.I'm not a spring chicken (I'm 37), but two of these interviews have been with people who are over 50, and this last guy is like 42.
Younger, older I don't care who is on a "team" with me as long as everyone gets stuff done.

Depends on how you deliver it. If you have a Citrix environment, you can very easily and very quickly turn every device into a Remote Desktop accessible anywhere with a single install. It amazes me the number of employers who use remote desktop. I've been using AnyDesk for the few things that require my work network. As long as campus has power, I'm good.

My firm implemented Citrix right as the pandemic started, and it's way better than remote desktop. I even have the Citrix Workspace app running on my Fedora Linux box (although to took some Googling and manual tweaking), which is great because my Linux computer is designed to be low-power while my home Windows box is a gaming rig (and decently effective space heater). My understanding is that the plan is to eventually also use Citrix for the in-office computers.

I've used RDP and Citrix Horizon and Citrix is garbage. Way too much work to do basic things like copy and paste between my local computer and the remote computer.

We use VMWare. It's hit or miss, but not necessarily connectivity issues vis a vis getting booted off. Our biggest issue is random 5-second input lag that can last for hours.

It's literally a single policy setting to enable this in Citrix.I've used RDP and Citrix Horizon and Citrix is garbage. Way too much work to do basic things like copy and paste between my local computer and the remote computer.

I had to manually modify my wife's RDP config file so she could use 2 monitors at home. Felt like a hacker.
Why not just use VPN?

VPN is fine if you've got a work laptop at home with all of your apps on it. Using a Citrix desktop removes that requirement. If most of your apps are in Citrix, it can be a single pane into your entire environment, making endpoint requirements minimal.
Citrix > RDP, VMware, and everyone else when it comes to remote work, period.

We use VPN for everything, but everyone also has their own work laptop with everything loaded up.

I connect via a VPN and then use RDP to get to the servers that I work on.I had to manually modify my wife's RDP config file so she could use 2 monitors at home. Felt like a hacker.
