Job and General Employment Thread

Our experience (bad) with pharmacies started years before COVID. When Walgreens bought out Rite Aid in our region, they closed the Rite Aid and sent all of its customers over to Walgreens. Same pharmacy hours, same number of staff filling scrips. They've closed for lunch since 2018. Coupled that we were in a low income area with many underinsured people, obese people with a variety of related chronic illnesses, and so on - it was a nightmare getting scrips filled. Out of stock on things like Amoxicillin emulsion when the kids were younger, things like that. And we used a mail order pharmacy for our regular prescriptions.

In like 2019 or early 2020 I waited in the drive thru line for 45 minutes on Tamiflu. My kid had the flu, and I was starting to feel symptoms, so I didn't want to go inside...so we sat.

I get legit butthurt about service industry places like restaurants taking forever to make food/deliver it now. Our world has mostly gone back to normal - but staff reductions, etc. still remain - and having to wait 20-30 minutes at a "fast food" restaurant really just chaps my ass anymore.

Wife works for a health system, and we have to use their pharmacies for any 'long term' medication, which means driving into the **** city to pick up the prescription. Because god forbid they open pharmacies in the suburbs, of expand mail Rx.

I despise going out to eat anymore. It's a hundred dollar bill anywhere you go now unless you don't have 1-2 drinks and order something you don't feel like eating. The kids are a nightmare usually. And the service sucks most of the time.

Tomorrow my wife wants to go out with her sister for her birthday (but I will still pay for her/us, it's like what's the point of calling it a birthday dinner lol) and Sunday we're going to brunch for my moms birthday. I'll have $150-200 in dining out this weekend for "special occasions". My wife can't ever figure out why id rather order a pizza and stay home.

And re: staffing issues.

Is the issue that the staff is now unwilling to work for $7.25 per hour? Because I think that's the staffing issue. Not that there isn't any staff.

I went out last night with one of my daughters for mexican and couldn't believe the rise in prices since last going there pre covid. Almost like they doubled.

Wondering that myself. I posted in another thread that our local Mad Mex is 'temporarily closing', and wondered if it was due to them not paying enough for staff, or that service/food was just trash. Parking lot always seemed to have decent number of cars in it from what I could tell.

4 tacos, trio of dips (split in half) and 3 modelos was $45 at Condado taco the other night pregame.

I'm certain I could have gotten a 12 pack of modelo, and made enough stuff for 30 tacos and dips, for less.

I'm not saying I blame them. I wouldn't want to do it either. But employers can't have these big pity parties that they're short staffed when it's self inflicted with the wages they're offering.

Yea I think it's a wage thing for sure. There's always that discussion about razor thin margins yadda yadda, but the tough thing is then they start raising the prices to unimaginable levels because they need to 'pay' people an extra 2-3 dollars an hour. It's tough because that can make or break a restaurant - but these places like McDonalds where you try and order a quick meal and that's just not the case.

You know who the new fast food is? Places like Sheetz - I can be in and out of there in literal seconds if I order ahead.

Sheetz is way too overpriced for my wallet.
