The glasses was the poking fun part, because he had the privilege of golfing with me while I was wearing 8-year old lenses and couldn't see the ball for 95% of my non-putting strokes.

I'm genuinely happy for him. I know he put up with a metric **** ton of crap at the old gig and he deserves to be treated with dignity at the new one. :thumb:

@MR25, that's great to hear. :thumb:

I had a call with the president of our company tonight. We are being purchased by a much larger private equity firm, and because of all the work I've done to help prepare for this, he let me know that I'm one of only a very small handful of people that will be receiving transaction bonuses.

I found out the number today. Combined with my normal year end bonus for hitting my goals, this is by far the largest bonus I've ever received, and will pay off every remaining cent of debt we have, save for the mortgage. My wife already gave the blessing to set aside a nice chunk for myself

It's a great feeling. I'm honestly stunned right now. Been a loooooong couple of years but all feels worth it now

My wife how has email access for her former boss since idk I guess the IT guy at her work isn't that good but anyway she came across an email from her boss to her director saying the problem with the department was my wife and that she wanted her fired. Lol. How'd that work out for ya
When my first boss at Konami left, I had the suspicion that he was........... asked to leave or be fired. He was very gruff with the business people in the office, and on more than one occasion people left his office in distress and disarray, even tearing up. It was weird, because he was a really great guy to work for, trained me and my counterpart up on digital media law and would have us sit in on his webinar CLEs all the time, would run thought exercises in problem solving and contract drafting (like he'd come up with wacky business terms and have us figure out how to memorialize it). There was an ongoing litigation matter he was overseeing so his laptop had to be retained forensically. Since it was all intact, I asked the IT guy if he could clone the csv file and load it on my machine. Which he did, no questions asked. So I had the electronic comms for an attorney on my laptop.

I totally did not seek emails from the HR veep outlining 3 years of abusive office behavior, and I 100% did not read the chain of emails surrounding my interview and hiring process. Nope. I did not do that.

Guys, I love my new job.

In just this week, I have:

1. Had the AVC of my department come into my office at 4:40 and tell me to go home because "if you're done, you don't need to clock-watch til 5 PM"
2. Won our department HR's monthly trivia game
3. Had my boss walk into my office at 10:45 this morning to tell me to take off and work the rest of the day from home.

Almost every single interaction I've had within my new office makes me so thankful I got out of my old job. I don’t think I truly realized how bad things were at the other one until now, where suddenly I'm treated like an adult and given some semblance of agency.
Splendid! Good for you, man. :fist:

One of my long time team members, who trained me and everyone else who came (and left) since then sounded absolutely horrible on the phone on Friday. She's had gastro issues for years and said it was something she ate on Wednesday. Found out this morning she's in emergency surgery today after getting a dire diagnosis with a poor prognosis. My boss called a meeting to tell us and ended up crying while he told us. This is a former Army officer who runs a firearms customization business on the side. I don't know the exact nature of her issue this time but it's not good.

Normally I can compartmentalize this stuff but I'm just sitting here half-crying while trying to work. Which sucks because I'm at the district today.

Aside from the obvious personal concerns, it's a real dagger for our team as well. It was hanging by a thread before this and she was the most efficient, hardest worker on the team.

Some may remember this post. After her successful surgery, she came back to work for a while but then left again about a month ago. She passed away on Friday from cancer.

Huge loss for anyone that knew her. I'm not the type to over-eulogize someone. So understand when I say that she was likely the most effective person I have ever worked with in any job, including the Marines. She was intelligent, intensely driven, and extremely thorough. But mostly she was sincere and helpful. I've seen here frustrated but never mad. I'm going to miss her immensely.

Late 40s.

Thanks. It's weird grieving for someone that I only met face to face a handful of times but she had such a strong influence on me.

The team has almost completely turned over. When I promoted out of it earlier this year it was down to about 4 of the 12 people that are supposed to be on it. It has since completely restaffed (other than Ada, but they actually hired another Hawaii person) and the team is really healthy now. I felt really bad when I took my promotion and left them so thin but that did work out in the end.

That’s too bad. Being sincere and helpful are two extremely valuable traits for people to have. People like that are a cut above.

Did that once on my phone while running to the pharmacy to pick up meds lol. My boss knew I was going but still was embarrassed. My laptop always has a sticker over the camera.

Our VP is walking around the office right now sending people home. Not because it's thanksgiving tomorrow, but because there's a ton of people hacking, coughing, sneezing... "We have a f*cking work from home policy in place now. Go the f*ck home."

Today we finally convinced our boss that Monday stand-ups were a waste of time and the only thing it accomplished was the team justifying their time to one person. She cancelled all future stand-ups.
