one of my friends is a beat writer on the county news"paper" for the local ECHL team. she also covers high school sports for them. pretty much the minute all these things were canceled for the season they canned her with only 1 day of "severance pay". I think she knew it was coming at some point and she says that she had no illusions of the company that hadn't given her a raise in 14 years but still....

That's shitty. One day is more insulting than nothing.they canned her with only 1 day of "severance pay".

Person at work: I can't remotely log into my computer.
Me: Ok, gimme a min, heading to the office.
Person: Are you there?
Me: Yes. Do you have the right workstation name?
Person: I think so.
Me: We've been having issues with DNS, so you might also need your IP address. Did you copy it down beforehand?
Person: Yes.
Me: (logs into computer, person isn't in the Remote Desktop Users group)
So we've been out of the office since last Tuesday and this person is just now saying that she can't log in?

Had a conference call with our group today. Found out a guy in our office area has symptoms of the virus. He travels quite a bit, so I'm sure he got it before any lock down on travel was in place.
And of course he won't be tested due to limited tests available.

For those of you that WFH regularly, as in before the quarantine, is there something on the tax form for claiming your home as a place of employment? I'm sure this is going to be something we'll all be wondering in a year, but just wondering about it now.

Yeah ditto I don't put anything on my taxes for WFH, and I work from home 2-3 days a week.

I don't do anything with my federal taxes, but do get a nice check from the city of Philadelphia for my WFH throughout the year. I think this year's check is just short of $2k.

What do you net out after you pay your local tax to the jurisdiction where you live for your WFH time? Just short of 2k?I don't do anything with my federal taxes, but do get a nice check from the city of Philadelphia for my WFH throughout the year. I think this year's check is just short of $2k.

Why is a C-level executive looking at cirtix usage? Is he trying to check on if people are actually working?

Confirmed case of the COVID in our office. Luckily the guy is hardly there, so we are at "low risk". Our boss said we will stay WFH for at least another full week, maybe more.

She was looking at daily usage reports on Citrix and VPN, and noticed that Citrix Desktop utilization was much smaller than Citrix applications. She's also incompetent, which should not surprise you.Why is a C-level executive looking at cirtix usage? Is he trying to check on if people are actually working?

I had my second interview today and IMO it went terribly.
I've had about 3 interviews where people of Indian descent were involved and every time, it goes horribly.

He was one of three people on the interview, yeah.
He asked a question that I thought I answered half decently at worst. Then he said "let me rephrase the question" after I completed my 2 minute answer... So like he said "no dumbass, that's not what I was asking".

Some fun news... my wife has been on a year to year contract at Penn State for the last 4 years or so. Recently a permanent position opened up, and she got the job. Not only is it job security (well, she was secure... she's a rock star there for her ability to teach chemistry across all levels), but it's a very healthy raise in salary. We're stoked.
