Do the gov phones have a hardened os?
The funny thing is that iOS is the easiest to control in an enterprise environment. BB is probably second in line, and far down below is Android.
I do believe that my S8 needs airwatch but the iPhone 7s dont. If they were iPhone 8s that would've been my choice, as I have 2 different chargers anyway with the S8 having USB C

When I was a contractor I did some really cool work in Solaris 10 that is probably obsolete by now. :(
Great OS for heavy lifting, but, damn it was a pain in the butt install 3rd party software. I would have loved if their desktop efforts had taken off.

I had a Blackberry for years and really liked it. I still miss how compact that phone was. I loathe the trend toward bigger phones.

Blackberry is mostly dead in the US, but I understand they still have some market share in developing markets like South America.

I got Ice'd at work today...someone put a box on my desk, I opened it and it had a Smirnoff Ice in it. It's been more than 10 years since this has happened to me, I didn't even remember this brief period in the history bro-life existed until this...

Talked to some pushy sales guy in London and he pretty quickly sent me a quote for the potential service....in pounds.
Surely they do enough business to convert the quotes to dollars. Whatever, but it just struck me as funny.

I say this with all sincerity. It's embarrassing that everyone from my executive level leadership down to my team lead have no idea who is working through the shutdown and who is not. It all comes down to funding, certain groups are funded through the appropriation bill and others are funded from other sources. The government has threatened to shut down 4 times in the last year, and the fiscal year rolled over in October. Yet, three days into the shutdown they're still scrambling to figure out who will work and who will not.

They literally do not have a shut down plan, they're using that as an excuse for why they don't know. We have a plan in place in case our location is blown off the map, but not one to tell you what happens during a highly probable government shutdown.

Seriously, I'm embarrassed for them. I don't think the CIO should know each position specifically, nor should my direct supervisor really, but our Division Chief sure as **** should.

Like I said, we have solid and validated plans for the highly improbable but nothing for what everyone saw coming.

Yeah, but you love them...don't you? You want them to run more of our lives and businesses and take more of our money...but yet, you (and all of us) know that they could screw up a glass of water...tough to reason...

I'm curious what the shut down actually costs. Everyone still gets paid in the end, and workflow is completely disrupted which reduces efficiency significantly.

What is the longest shutdown our government has ever had? I remember a few of them in my (adult) lifetime, but I don't recall them lasting long.

I remember in 2013 we were in the middle of onboarding a new hire and couldn't get the e-verify system to work during a shutdown. That sucked.

In my working lifetime? 16 days, in 2013. Prior to that? 21 days in 1995.

a) I don't love them
b) Just because they screw some things up doesn't mean that they (do or will) screw everything up

Caller: "no one can get in this building. we think everyone was deleted from it! :scared: :scared: :scared: "
'Om: "I see people using it right now."
Caller: "well it's just this one person that's having an issue."

*sigh*

To close my loop, I was informed I'm exempt from furlough. Business as usual. About 5 of my ~30 or so enterprise team members were furlough'd. Turns out the way their duties are accounted for comes out of local command funds. Bummer.

I get an invite internally to a "lunch and learn" at 12:30. I'm passing someone in the hall who is also invited and just casually ask "oh hey, what are we having for lunch at this lunch and learn thing?"

He says, "oh, no, we're not providing lunch...you can bring your lunch in and learn about this [something IT thing, whatever, etc.]"

My old job used to do the same thing, only it wasn't really "optional". The CIO would instruct the managers to have at least two per team sign up. Suckers.

It's a 12:30 to 1 pm thing. The title makes it sound like lunch is being provided, otherwise it's just a sneaky way of getting people to "work" through lunch...

Instead of "Lunch and Learn" the more appropriate title would be "A Learn"...

As a protest, I will be taking a half hour break on both sides of this "Learn"...
