Job and General Employment Thread

Postby shmenguin » Wed Nov 22, 2017 10:36 am

Put an OoO up every night
I have a fancy job title. I am ineligible for improving my quality of life.
I had a guy turn down a promotion about a month ago because he didn't want to shoulder any more responsibility and potentially cut into his home life (he's got three kids under 3). My peer was flabbergasted (a childless individual). I told him I'm not surprised he said no. The candidate gained a huge amount of respect from me.
They brought me in at Director level after the acquisition. I knew I was in for some pain. At this point, I make more money than I need. I would take a 30-40% pay cut today if it meant my stress level went down significantly. But sadly, voluntary demotions aren't a thing and I don't have an interest in pounding the pavement to look for a new gig when it will most likely lead to the same horseshit.

If I can hack it for 6 or 7 more years, I can pay off my house and eliminate all of my debt. I think that's when i do something drastic. But that's a long time to feel like the universe is collapsing with your brain as the epicenter.

One year anniversary of being gainfully employed here dahntahn.
First day at work. None of my bosses are here and my computer doesn't work. Nor does my phone. And my Blackberry was ordered but isn't here. At least my door key works.

I'm on my personal tablet whinging to you people and counting down the time till I can go sit in traffic.
Not much has changed!
Also, I was introduced to the techs as 'the new IA guy' and my cube is on the other side of the floor from them. So basically, 'Hey, this is dodint, your new Internal Affairs/NARC guy.'

Should be a blast.
Turns out I don't work with the techs much at all. Woot!

In all seriousness I've learned a ton this year and really look forward to excelling at this position over the next year. Which means I should be fairly bored with it by the end of next year, but that's fine, I have a lot on my plate regardless.

I think tif is right around his first year at Big Gorilla as well.

Next Tuesday will be my anniversary, and this has unquestionably been the hardest job I've ever had in the field. By a frankly alarming margin. lol

Ha, C-Dawg just posted a link to pre-fab sheds at Home Depot in Randomness and I was tempted to make a grow house joke.

Dear marketing people: Simple declarative answers to questions do not require an exclamation point.

Q: Will we be collecting phone numbers in addition to emails?

A: We will only be collecting emails!

It's not really that exciting.

Which is more annoying.

We will only be collecting emails!

Or

The exclamation point, clearly. I've gotten used to people using all caps to emphasize the odd word. I'd prefer italics or underline, but all caps isn't a deal breaker.

I would definitely consider this a major sign of encouragement for corporate humanity. A woman in my department's glasses somehow fell down into the elevator shaft. Realty services closed out her request three times without retrieving the glasses, but somehow today it was escalated to the right person and some building guy found the glasses on the basement floor.

Being 100% honest, this was their last good album. Blooddrunk was okay, but the other three were very meh.
They definitely peaked with it.

Unlike Dennis Reynolds, who has yet to peak.

How? How do you lose your glasses down an elevator shaft?

I think she was wearing them on their head, so the falling off part seems clear. But, no I am not clear on the physics of them falling down the elevator shaft.

This unfortunately makes that fear of your shoelace getting stuck in escalator or dropping your keys into the sewer more realistic for me.

They had to fit down that small gap. And then somehow bounce out of the shaft, and on to the basement floor.

That is one magical pair of glasses.

Gotta be honest, I had you pegged as a janitor-style key ring guy for some reason.

You should see my work keys. I've got about 12-15 keys on a huge lockable key ring.

Comes with the trade, I'm afraid. Can't be a locksmith and not have keys. Unless you have an access card. Which I also have. And manage.
