Maybe beat yourself up in front of your boss, like Narrator in Fight Club. It seemed to work for him.

I work remote for a small company and the boss/owner handles all payroll stuff herself. The company does not offer health insurance but instead we get reimbursed on the 1st or 2nd of every month so we can pay healthcare on our own.
The boss travels a good bit and she is in India the past two week for work stuff. She is 'around' but not nearly as present as when she is back in the USA. No reimbursement paid yet for this month (for anyone in the company, not jut me) and I am getting antsy. Have to pay the premium real soon and would hate to float the cost before getting the reimbursement.. It is hard to get a hold of her. I think she comes back next week. This has happened before a few times, mostly when she is traveling around the 1st of the month...Sigh

Well, tomorrow I have my first in-person job interview in two years. Essentially, this opportunity is one in which I would be able to join a MUCH smaller (less than 300 current employees, but a sound growth plan) medical practice, and essentially be their first true recruiter. I would be building the department from the ground up, working arm-in-arm with the VP of HR as they expand over the next several years. Selecting and implementing an ATS, creating a process, etc.
The salary is a little more than I am making now, and I have some minor concerns about the PTO (only 15 days I think), but this is an opportunity that, at least after my phone interview, I feel is a good one for my career. By essentially starting their recruitment function, and working so closely with the VP, I should hopefully be in a management role quickly. I loathe my current department, as you all know--we just had our fifth (!) HR Manager give her notice in the last 6-8 months. We have a total of about nine. And it's very clear that my new boss is a bit of an egoist.

What's standard for PTO? I think I get 11 holidays a year, and then I get 1.5 days per month that can be accrued (18 days for the year), and then after being here for 5 years, that gets upped to 2 days per month or 24 days for the year.

There's no difference for me. They give us PTO to use whether it's planned off time or sick days.

My last job had time off split into three categories: vacation, sick, and personal. My current job just lumps everything into one bucket, which is definitely my preference.

I accrue 8.74 PTO hours per two weeks. The drawback is that everything comes out of that bucket. Sick days, vacation, holidays...any day off. You can roll over all your hours at the end of the year and can accumulate 320 hours.

Why do you consider that to be a drawback? Let's say you don't get sick the entire year, and want to take a long vacation. Having everything under one bucket gives you more flexibility, since you technically have more time available for that purpose.

All PTO for me, no other distinctions. I get 17 for the year, and can roll over 5 to the next year. In two years, I'll be at 22 + 5 and I'll have no idea what to do with it all.

I already do that, with odd days off throughout the year, too. I'm not one to leave PTO on the table to be lost.

The only drawback, albeit a small one, is having to spend 8 hours PTO on a major holiday. There is the flipside to it, however. If the 4th of July is on a Wednesday, I can take Monday or Friday off and work on the 4th.Why do you consider that to be a drawback? Does your company allow you to 'sell' some of your PTO time during open enrollment? Mine does, and there are a few guys on my team who never take vacation, and simply cash [up to 40 hours] it out once a year. We have no limit on carrying over time, which I'm sure plays into this for some. I tend to use nearly every day available to me each year.

Ouch... can only roll over 5 days? I can roll over 30 days. I'll be there by the end of the year next year for sure, so that'll be a nice little stash. Could take a whole month off, should I want to.
I just checked, and want to correct my above statement. I get 9 holidays a year, not 11. So 9+18=27 days off total in a year, should I take them.

Ah, sorry - I missed the holiday part of it. That's a little odd to me, but I see your point. Holidays are separate for us here (7 total). The only drawback, albeit a small one, is having to spend 8 hours PTO on a major holiday. There is the flipside to it, however. Yes. You can sell up to 80 hours and choose between two pay-out pay periods the next year (May and November I believe). You can also donate PTO hours to a community fund where co-workers can draw from if they have a major life-event and do not have enough PTO to cover themselves.

My company doesn't buy or sell/ and doesn't allow you to roll over.
