I wouldn't bend over backwards. If I were them and was no longer there, I'd have reached out to you directly with updated contact info if I were actually interested.

I had a couple of groups added to my team. Not a promotion, just more work. And twice the meetings.
How can sitting there in meetings be so freaking exhausting?

Well, corporate is here to help.
Been at this job nearly 6 years now, when I started the founders had just sold it to a large publicly traded American manufacturer. Despite our divisions success, the larger corp posted loss after loss and declared bankruptcy in the summer 2020 (not COVID related). We got bought by a vc, and while the people occupying the suits at corporate changed the culture and mentality never did. The group continues to lose 8 figures a year.
Meanwhile, our division which is a separate location continues to hit its numbers, posted year over year sales growth and this year once again had double digit positive EBITDA %. 8 of the last 9 years has seen either record top line or bottom line numbers.
So this week because of the overall group’s performance, and the anticipated downturn, corporate is here to cut heads. But they can’t even do that right. They started scheduling Town Hall meetings four days in advance and invited Corp HR. So we all knew what was coming. Then they decided to cut hourly heads yesterday and are doing salaried today, leaving everybody in limbo another day. Managers were told yesterday morning who they were being forced to let go and were given no input to do what was best for their team.
The head of our tool room, who started 15 years ago as an assembler just out of high school was let go. Anybody that knows him personally knew he was going to take it personally, the place has been his life. His manager reminded HR that they’d have to shut down his email immediately and gather his keys and that, but nobody acted on it. So poor dude got let go, went home alone and sat with his feelings and continued to get emails on his phone. What does a hurt, drunk do when he keeps encountering his ex? Well he wrote a short FU email and sent it to the whole company.
Unfortunately nobody could bother to tell him to chill 24 hours because local HRs plan was to call him back this morning and offer him a job in the weld department until he could find another machinists job.
It’s corporate amateur hour. No wonder they can’t make any money.
Keep myself and my coworkers in your thoughts. We know at least one from our department is getting the axe today, but the boss can’t say. He’s beside himself as well, and questioning where he goes from here. Just another tragedy of a too big to fail corporate attitude ruining a successful family owned company within 10 years.

Got a meeting invite for today at noon, for something that's not important. Asked the PM to move it to outside of lunch time, and he said I should block out my calendar for noon-1. No, ****, you should be the one not scheduling lunch meetings.
Job and General Employment Thread
It's your fault I don't respect the noon hour!

I'd request new times on his meetings going forward, no matter what.

Set a noon meeting then push it 15 minutes 6x.

And that's s**t news, Bear. There's really no good way for companies to navigate that path once they choose it, but it seems you always hear about them finding new and inventive ways to **** it up.

UH-OHYou’ll get the job since you feel that way.Hardest one I’ve been a part of. If nothing else it was experience with senior leadership, but that was about an average performance from me and I usually feel like I do great.

That sounds like a confirmation

I was told an offer was coming my way. I am literally stunned. I felt the worst I've ever felt post-interview.

The power of 5AF compelled it to be so. If you get the job, fix the god damn board.

I didn't want to jinx what skullman said, but I had the same vibe with the interview I had for my job, so it definitely seems like there's a heavy confirmation bias there lol.

haha, well nothing in front of me yet. So we'll see. I've started all that fear of the unknown jitters. Been here for 10 years. Feel like I'm leaving at a good time, but I learned I wasn't getting a promotion into a senior role I'd be taking now.
Thankfully it'd be with another strong company and out of marketing back into IT.

I did survive, so the job search becomes much lower stakes.
