Real question here but what qualifies a weapon as an "assault weapon."

Go by the AWB definition - folding stocks, pistol grips, bayonet mounts, flash suppressors, mag capacity etc.

I was wondering if what I was told about a weapon having an extendable or foldable stock was correct.

I think many people hear "assault rifle" and think automatic weapon.

I'd like to see punishment for having illegal fire arms through the roof (if getting caught with illegal drugs can absolutely ruin your life, why not getting caught with illegal guns?), and I'd also like to see licenses for guns similar to a drivers license. In fact make a lot of things similar to driving a car. Have guns inspected, have to re-up registration yearly, have to renew your license, etc. I know that neither of these will likely do anything for these "mass shootings" but for everyday gun violence, it might help. Who knows.

Mag capacity isn't an issue though, IIRC. I thought they banned all magazines/clips over 15 rounds or something like that?

I selected:

I support mandatory nationwide background checks.
I support a national gun buyback program.
I support tighter restrictions on handgun and assault rifle purchases, including a waiting period.

I lean towards the "gun show" loophole, except I don't know what it is. In NC I could buy at gun shows, but only if I showed my CCW.

As a Libertarian I don't support a national gun buyback program, but I'm willing to bend on the principle if it had some benefit. The only people I see benefiting from that program are possible accidental shooting victims from mishandling old weapons in the household. It won't do anything for anyone that actually likes guns, or inner-city crime.

I'd like to see the elimination of all state laws involving guns. For better or worse, leave it to the feds.

Seriously, explain the reasoning there. Change my mind.

I know that for 'assault rifles' Magpul currently has 25 rd mags in 7.62 and a 60 rd drum in 5.56.

It is like there is a cognitive dissonance on this.

Too clever by half.

And that can be rectified, as needed. Allowing a terrorist (of whatever faith and/or ideology) cannot, if they go on a rampage.

Heck no. Eight states (i.e., California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York) have enacted magazine-capacity limits. The other 42 states have no limits on magazine capacity.

I do not believe you.

As I said in the other thread, if their actions have already been bad enough to warrant stripping constitutional rights they should be arrested or if there is nothing to charge them with, taken off the list.

The ACLU says otherwise on the simplicity and none of the most recent Islamic terrorists were on it (Boston, Chattanooga, and SB).

Don't really understand the mandatory checks. Most of these shooting situations were people that would have likely passed a standard background check as it is.

Saying we should ban everyone on the no flight list from being able to legally buy guns is the kind of thing that sounds so obvious that most people will blindly go along with it. But it's a slippery slope, to say the least. Most of those people have never been charged, let alone convicted of a crime so how can they be stripped of one of their constitutional rights? And, if we allow that right to be taken away, what's to say that after a few more terrorist attacks, it won't be "common sense" to do away with the right to due process and lock up anyone suspected of being a terrorist without a trial. After all, they're only going to put away the bad guys and terrorists, so we don't have anything to worry about. The gov. never makes mistakes.
