Again, very fortunate to get out of this one with a W. A skate blade offsides and then a great read on the PK by Naeher. Whoever we play in the championship is going to be playing with house money and absolutely nothing to lose and I'd expect them to be aggressive and see how they can dent this questionable US defense.

If I have jelly legs when I’m about to take the biggest pk of my life, I’m not going for precision. She needed to just yeet that thing with some authority if she didn’t have the fortitude to place it.

Also I don’t understand why you wouldn’t shoot high on a goalie who can’t cover the upper portions of the net. I get it. You could baggio yourself. But look at the alternative.

In the pros I'm sure it's different, but playing soccer from 1st grade thru 11th grade, coaches always told us to keep it low on PKs. They're just as hard to stop, and definitely more precise. Also I don’t understand why you wouldn’t shoot high on a goalie who can’t cover the upper portions of the net. I get it. Makes sense for men. Women goalies are notoriously incapable of covering high shots. In the pros I'm sure it's different, but playing soccer from 1st grade thru 11th grade, coaches always told us to keep it low on PKs. I played goalie quite a bit as a kid. One of the best memories I had was a game after a big rain storm. A large puddle of water had formed at the edge of the 18, which was basically a black hole for any ball that rolled nearby. In one of those instances with nobody around, I dove in as if I was making a diving stop. Mom wasn't too pleased, but the other parents got a good laugh. The little kids do till they take a shot off the button and get a bloody nose. Before I became the guy who gets chewed for field damage I’d always encourage my players to get as muddy as possible. Still do for road games.I played goalie quite a bit as a kid.
