Syracuse on a 25-4 run. Holy hell

I joked with a friend of mine that Syracuse's bizarre entrance into the tournament meant they were a shoo-in to win the whole thing.

What an oh-so-Pitt hire. What a joke move.

Stallings isn't a bad coach, it's just a thoroughly uninspiring move.

Its not just "uninspiring" IMO; it reflects poorly on Barnes' judgment/planning. If you decide, in the face of Dixon doing yet another year-end waver, that instead of (1) putting on the full court press to get him to stay you'd rather (2) lower the buyout to facilitate the move, the replacement has to be either an established coach at his caliber or better, or a young coach you view as potentially better than Dixon who has the added benefit of reinvigorating a relatively stagnant program. That TCU deal may have moved a little too fast for him; instead of buying a couple of more days to better understand his market, it seemed like it was over before it started. That deal took 36 hours or so from first reports of some smoke to done deal.

Barnes made that bet. Based on what we know right now, he lost. And not only did he lose, the hire is surrounded by squirrely optics that give the impression to many in the fanbase, boosters apparently included based on reports, that he got pummeled twice at the negotiating table.

I think Stallings' ceiling is probably the good years (rather than great) that we saw under Dixon -- that is, relatively regular presence in and out of the teens and 20's in the rankings, but a #1 ranking? Doubt it (and maybe that never happens again under Dixon, but I think most would concede its more likely with Jaime than Stallings). Barnes better hope Stallings' run maxes out and luck is on his side or this could look really bad for him in 3-4 years. The reflected shine from the football program -- assuming Narduzzi is the real deal over the long term -- will only last so long; that was Juhl's hire rather than Barnes'.

If the two options were rolling the dice on Stallings and waiting to see if Dixon could dig himself out of the whole he dug himself, this gentleman would select the Dixon option.

It would be very interesting to know more details about the Dixon-Barnes relationship.

Heard an interview with Stallings' son Jacob (who is a minor league catcher for the Pirates) on Da Fan Morning Show. Stallings was contacted on Monday before the "Sayonara Jamie" press conference even took place and interviewed on Wednesday. I wonder who else, if anyone, was even considered. Beyond that, if Stallings was contacted on Monday was the search firm even actually used or was it used in name only, as a means of Barnes funneling some money to his buddy?

Stallings stinks. Don't sugarcoat it. Anything short of raising an absolute stink at this hire is lacking conviction. It's a slap in the face to the idea of becoming a player in the ACC. He's a dope.

Two Pitt commits have reopened their recruitment because of the Stallings hire. Just lovely.

Recruits always do that with coaching changes. One of them was already recruited by Stallings to Vandy.

I was watching a pretty entertaining end of the NCAA-W Elite 8 game (Baylor - Oregon State). The Baylor coach was very fierce and intense. So I looked her up - 4.0 GPA, NCAA Champion as a player AND a coach (twice!). And she can coach in these shoes!!

Corey Manigault sticking with Pitt after speaking with Stallings. Justice Kithcart expected to do the same and has also not been officially released from his LOI.

I heard he named a bunch of Steelers and Pirates from the 70s at the press conference in an attempt to appease the yinzers.

Brandin Knight has turned down an offer to remain an assistant at Pitt. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. Does he follow Dixon to TCU and continue to "hone" his craft under the same coach and style of basketball or does he look for an opportunity elsewhere?

All three of Pitt's commitments (most important of which is Justice Kithcart) have re-affirmed their commitments and will stick with Pitt. Believe they've got one scholarship left to fill. Need to find a big man that can contribute immediately.

I actually have more faith in Stallings getting that done.
