2 questions:

1. Any way to get AT&T sports pittsburgh without cable yet?
2. Looking for a sound bar, preferably one <$100 for our living room. The surround sound will be going into the new basement, and the TV going into the livingroom doesn't have very good audio. Figure a sound bar is the easiest thing to do.

Any ideas what works for ripping old DVD home movies to digital? I've tried VLC a couple of different ways and it's failed each time. Main problem being that when the video progresses from chapter to chapter the video lags but the audio doesn't, so it is completely out of sync after a while. More infuriatingly, if I just 'Record' the video in VLC it will capture everything in the output file. But when you play the output file the sound will just randomly stop; if you pause and play again the sound is there. It's pretty aggravating.

These are the small Sony Handicam 1.4GB DVDs from the mid-2000s.
If I copy the contents of the DVD and run it from my PC directly I get the same problems.
If I just watch the DVD directly on the PC it skips but the video/audio stays sync'd when the pixelation subsides.

This is an i7 gaming PC w/32GB RAM so it's capable of performing these operations.

Have you tried HandBrake since VLC isn't working?

It's not skipping at all in Dell Power Media Player. So I guess I just need a decent DVD ripping software rec because VLC is shitting the bed for some reason.

Maybe give MakeMKV a try?

No, but I do have it installed. I must've used it for something at one point. I'll try it next. Thanks!

As Tony said, MakeMKV would be the other one I would try after HandBrake.

Agreed. Handbrake is tops, so I doubt you'll need to look any further.

Handbrake is awesome. Whenever Adobe's Media Encoder shits the bed or refuses to read a filetype, Handbrake is my go-to program and it almost always works.

Commercial DVDs I rip using MakeMKV, then Handbrake them to burn in subtitles and convert to MP4.

For the pandemic, I've had to rip DVDs for faculty, and host them on Google Drive so students can see them via Blackboard. Google Drive doesn't (or at least didn't when I started doing this a couple of years ago) like MKV files. I also have to add a subtitle track to the Drive file, which is tricky when subscene doesn't have it.

We're fortunate to have Google for Education, so I have an unlimited Google Drive account. I wish I could tie in my personal Plex server with that unlimited storage.

So, Armstrong had a major internet outage on Wednesday. Since it came back up, certain streaming devices are saying it can't find internet connect (Disney plus, Hulu, NHL.tv, ESPN) while others are working fine (Netflix, Philo). This is both through my phone and the Roku's in my house. Hulu is hit or miss.

Armstrong is saying my connection is strong, but even when I try to connect to a Plume device through the Plume app, it can't find it.

This is frustrating as hell. Any help is appreciated. I've unplugged all the Plume devices and the modem and let reset a few times already to no avail.

Prior to the outage on Wednesday everything was working perfect.

Recommended internet providers in Westmoreland county? Verizon, who I have now, doesn't service my address out by Twin Lakes. My parents have Citizens and they say it's not very good, I think they have it as a holdover from when they lived closer to Mammoth.

Xfinity seems to be the answer but I've never heard anyone ever say a kind word about them.

I've found Xfinity to be great over the last few years, especially if you stay on them about prices. Customer service has been really good.

Seems that might be the answer. The neighbor has "Comcast" which is the same thing as far as I know. He says it works well.

Yeah, same deal. **** will raise monthly prices like crazy, but if you call and bring hell with you, it usually works out well in the end. I've been on the same price for close to 3 years I think

Finally cancelling my Google Play Music All Access or whatever their streaming service is called. I still get the early adopter’s price of $8 per month, which also includes YouTube Premium. I’ll probably miss ad free YouTube more than the music service, which really hasn’t added features or changed UI in years. The content is fine, but Apple Music has a lot more custom playlists, interviews, and works well (finally) on Android. We originally got it for my wife and kids, who are all on iOS devices.

They could probably raise ad-free Youtube to $50 a month and I'd pay it.
