Anyone willing to cop to using an IPTV service? I was considering it but there seems to be an ongoing effort to shut them all down.

What was the old standard disc called? Video Essentials or something like that? Is there a 4k version of that today? I have good ears and trust my ability to hear pretty minute differences in sound quality and such like, but I think a consumer-level setup utility is probably about the maximum of my abilities on the picture front.
Spears and Munsil has a solid HDR calibration kit.

For those that have LG TV's, the only negative thing I can find about my set so far is the casting as I am an android user. Is the best route for this to just get a Chromecast?

That's what I figured. I see this Nvidia shield, but I don't think I need yet another console sitting on my av rack

The new Chromecast is great BTW. Such an upgrade over the previous generations.

Yeah, I have a Chromecast 4k and like it. Initial setup is still far too long, but afterwards it's all good.

looking to finish our basement coming up here soon. if you were designing a space for watching movies/tv/sporting events, what would you create? not unlimited budget but we have a little wiggle room in our budget

Not sure how extensive you are talking, but plan your wires, cables, speakers, etc before construction so you can hide all of it.

The answer is obviously 7.1.2 atmos surround, with a minimum 120" screen and of course a 4k projector. Then go for a giant comfy couch. **** them theater seats.

Even if this is sarcasm, it's still the correct answer. Run two pairs of wires to each speaker just in case, and hide everything in the walls/ceiling.

Not sarcasm. If you're going to do it, do it right. And I really hate when people put theater seats in a home theater. If you're going to bring home the worst part of a theater experience, may as well pay some dadholes to crinkle candy wrappers and text throughout the movie too.

Our La-Z-Boy couches all recline, and that's what I'd go with, personally.

Purely for redundancy to me - in case you manage to put a screw through one, etc.

Those Shields should be thin enough that they are barely noticeable.

Shields are overkill for just casting from Android, though.

We did a year subscription, which was cheaper than the monthly. Still worth it imo. But I'm wondering what's going to happen when the merger is complete and the Discovery programming is on there. Same price point? Higher price? What about the Discovery+ subscribers that pay substantially less than HBO Max's monthly rate?

Yeah, I want to know what's going on with the merger. Some HBO originals are already being removed and new planned content is being canceled. So far it just seems like a clusterf*ck so raising prices seems... on point.

Eh it’s $1. I’m also concerned about content disappearing from the service but a $1 hike isn’t anything to be worried about, especially when it’s the first price increase since launch. Still completely worth it.

So long as The Last Of Us still launches on Sunday I don't care.

I don't mind the $1 a month increase, but the uncertainty over what content will remain once they merge is enough that I definitely wouldn't commit for a year in advance.

Just saw a commercial for MGM+. I had no idea that was coming. Looked it up and it’s a rebrand of EPIX. Lol. Even at $6/month I don’t think it’s worth it.
