Were your sync issues with the receiver, though? AV sync with the tv speakers is perfectly fine. It’s the damn receiver that’s an issue, and I’m unwilling to replace it right now.

I've only ever had it hooked through the receiver so I guess it was the receiver, but I've never messed with the timing? There's an option in the settings for Bravia sync. Maybe try resetting that with you avr on. I do experience sync issues where every couple months the kids screw up something turning something off and I have to redo the bravia sync up. That could be it.

I don't know if it's my OCD or what, but I like to do the soft reboot of the tv every once in a while by holding in the power button and recycling everything. It really seems to speed up and correct some bugs that I notice.

I used a harmony remote before this tv, but went back to having 5 controllers beside me because of some of the limitations and how frequently I change settings depending on what I watch. It's a pain, but I seem to have more access to settings this way and once you get the bravia sync working, I find the main tv remote does a pretty good job at controlling everything

Bravia Sync really doesn’t appeal to me. I already have my Fire TV Cube managing my devices via CEC. And yeah, setting the TV to use my AV system for all audio could work. It’s a total shift in how I’ve used the system, but maybe I’ll give it a shot. I wonder how much power it’ll ware having the receiver on full-time, though.

Ive been running an avr and speakers at all times for the last 20 years. Refuse to use the tv speakers. In 20 years, I've gone through 3 maybe 4 receivers. Never had issues,

And yes, I was surprised at how much a difference it was upgrading to 4k compared to last practices

With regards to remotes, my Harmony One basically does it all. Every single button is customizable, and once I setup a device, I basically never have to change it.

I really wanted a button that I could hit on the harmony and have it switch to my HDR or video game or 4k, etc settings on the tv, but I couldn't get that to map, so I manually switch. I don't know if that was because my tv is older or the remote just couldn't handle that being an older model, but I couldn't get it to function and it just didn't want to play nice with the Sony. Another big part of that was reprogramming everything after getting the new tv. It was a pain and just didn't operate as smooth as the bravia sync did.

It was also a challenge finding out how many times I had to change my settings for every device that accessed it, so be wary of that. Settings didn't carry over from Android TV Amazon app to Netflix app or then to the Roku or then to the 4k player. Hopefully that got fixed on the new sets, but I couldn't figure out what was going on for a while.

Never had any sync issues, but I'm hooked to a Z9F soundbar.

That has Atmos on it, right? Does that work pretty well?

It's only a 3.1 bar, with a pair of optional wireless surrounds. The processing gives it some vertical feel, but it's certainly not real Atmos.

Probably going to get the 7.1.2 ST-5000 when I get the 950G...

My Harmony One is dying. The 'Guide' button died, had to make a software button to compensate. Sad!

For those of you watching this, be sure to change your settings to 8K. Thankfully my PC can handle it, but holy crap is it impressive.

Speaking of YouTube, I need to logoff my account from my TVs. It retains the search results, and my wife was not impressed by my searching habits.

My wife refuses to login with her own profile on Youtube, Netflix, etc. So she's stuck with my suggestions and I don't feel bad about it. It's basically an endless string of legal explainers and virtual sim race broadcasts. She was floored when she found out that there are broadcasters and a production team for sim racing. It's funny because some of the folks that run the broadcast are credited as cameramen.

In my very brief foray into SimRacing, I enjoyed the hell out of it. I just would never have the time/equipment to make it worthwhile.

Well, it is a 2 year old model at this point. They’re probably trying to jump on Amazon Prime Day. Speaking of, Amazon says certain Sony LED TVs will be up to 50% off. I’ll be keeping an eye on that.

where did you end up getting your tv from? Would they honor a price match after the fact?

I used Greentoe.com, which is basically a middle man service. I'm already using my Citi CC to price match to a grey market retailer, so there really isn't anything I can do here. I just want to see if I jumped the gun, though I doubt I did. Amazon would have to drop the price from $2598 to below $1998 for me to have paid to much when all is said and done.
