To be fair, I have updated RAM and gfx card since then. Can I be reinstated?

That's what started the discussion; I haven't updated since 2011.

It's not so much the fact that it's old, but more so because it's AMD ****.

I've been enjoying sling, but I've been getting quite frustrated with some of the minor nuances... local sports channels aren't available, they have weird blackouts for certain things (like today's PSU game for whatever reason...), and at times their service just sucks with buffering. I really like the idea of it, but I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to stay with them.

Directv now has the free AppleTV back again....you have to prepay for 4 months (4x$35) and you get a free 32 gig AppleTV. It is the new 4K AppleTV that retails for $179. Once the four months are over you don’t need to continue the service.

Need help FAFs.
Ran security camera wires tonight. They are a double wire, power and CATV like line. Only one problem. I ran 2 of them backwards. Didn't realize there were male and female ends to the power wire.
So do I have any hope for a splicer like thing or should I just rip them out and re run them?

Cut off the connectors and swap ends?

Eh. I hate to do that with in wall wiring. I'll just end up pulling them out and redoing it I guess.

A lot of broadcasters have streaming restrictions, so some content will be blacked out via an OTT service that's not actually blacked out OTA. Sometimes the restrictions of device-defined, like you can't stream live NFL football on a mobile phone unless you're on Verizon, for example.I've been enjoying sling, but I've been getting quite frustrated with some of the minor nuances... local sports channels aren't available, they have weird blackouts for certain things (like today's PSU game for whatever reason...), and at times their service just sucks with buffering. This drives me nuts. I understand Verizon paid a ton of money to nerf the apps, but I don't want to watch on my tiny phone. I want to cast to a much larger television. The fact I want to do it from my phone should be irrelevant.Sometimes the restrictions of device-defined, like you can't stream live NFL football on a mobile phone unless you're on Verizon, for example.

This restriction was Sling specific. I contacted them and they said that they do not have rights to B1G games unless on ESPN. This B1G game was on FS1, so they had to black it out. I asked if they were in the works with trying to secure rights to B1G stuff, they said they couldn't answer that at this time. K. Cool.

Yeah, that's pretty normal for OTT services. We lost BeIN Sports from our service a few months ago because they were launching their own proprietary streaming service. Networks are trying to force consumers who don't pony up for cable or satellite into a situation where they have to go to dedicated websites or apps for each network. And it's stupid.

BeIN Sports was added to my FiOS package this year or last. Unfortunately, AC Milan is completely unwatchable right now, so the excitement over getting it for free is now completely void.

Friends, just to reiterate, I know next to nothing about this world...that said, I have the following question...
I have this TV: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/toshiba-43 ... Id=4807800
I'm looking at adding some sound, uh, stuff to it...namely, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3500-5 ... B0077V88V8
a) Will that do anything to enhance my experience? Reminder: I'm easy to please, as I'm currently using the TV's speaker. I don't know any better.
b) I basically only watch sports, sometimes movies. All streamed through the PC. Is there any hope I get some sort of surround sound-type effect given the current setup?
c) If no, what would need to be altered to achieve such a thing?
Thank you.

Yes, that would enhance your overall viewing experience. Some hdtvs have simulated surround modes, but they’re generally garbage and should be avoided. A true surround setup, even with low end equipment (not referring to your proposed audio system), will likely sound better than your TVs speakers.

when you watch a movie on your pc, what software are you using? a little tinkering with the settings should get you surround sound, depending on your settings.
my neighbor just bought that exact Onkyo system. I'm going to his place Saturday to help him wire it up

I generally just use VLC player...either way, this sounds like a promising starting point...

Yeah solid setup. When I think HTIB I generally think of Sony sets that don't include a traditional receiver but rather a DVD/Blu-ray that just have one hdmi port and MAYBE composite. This looks like a step up from that.

its essentially Onkyo's SR353 receiver with internal amps for the subwoofer at the expense of room correction. Its a good deal if you have a few things to plug in but don't really want to make an investment.

I'm a longtime fan of Onkyo receivers. I own a Yamaha now, but only because of the discount I got when purchasing it. It was too good to pass up.
