The little company I work for basically provides a playback locker for digital movies purchased across studios. Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate are the main holdouts that we don't have deals with. I figured with the launch of P+ we'd never be getting Paramount titles, but I didn't know MGM was launching its own thing. Didn't Amazon just acquire the studio recently? Why aren't they using that library to drive folks to Prime?

MGM has a tremendous library, but I don't think there's any real value add for just legacy titles.

I just realized HBO pulled Westworld from HBO Max. Guess I won't be watching the last few seasons. I'm sure I'm not missing much, but it seems wild that HBO originals are being removed from HBO Max.

Westworld and the others are going to end up on other platforms, some for free: https://www.polygon.com/23513277/westwo ... ws-removed

They pulled a bunch of Looney Tunes, too.

The disc drive on the PS3 we use for a BluRay player randomly turned on this morning about 5:30. Just surging and sounding like it was trying to read a disc. We haven't used it much since moving, and it was in rest mode. It scared the hell out of me. I didn't test it, but I'm not sure I would replace it at this point. I can't remember the last time we actually watched anything on it.

Ha, I remember when Bluray was first a thing and the PS3 was one of the best players on the market. Which is kind of funny.

Same, and it was the best for a very long time. It's why I bought a PS3 in the first place.

Same. I used it for a couple of years until I could talk myself into buying an Oppo, which I still use.

And the Xbox one s for a 4k player. It's still difficult to find a cheap 4k player that does Dolby vision without having to manually select it from settings before a disc is played.

I had a One S for 3 years and had no clue it could play 4k discs. I know the XSX does and it works well enough, though I have no way to compare it to a standalone player.

We use our PS5 for 4k discs with no issue. The PS3 was a great Blu ray player too back in the day.

It nice to not have to buy a standalone player having so many options out there.

I know Sony doesn't play nice with Dolby vision, does xbx play uhd discs with Dolby vision or are they just hdr too? Although convenient for most people, I never liked playing movies through my gaming console so like an idiot had to buy a $500 stand alone player on top of the Sony HDR player just to get Dolby vision. What a racket

Dolby Vision is not supported on either XSX or PS5 via physical disc. On the XSX, it's only supported on streaming apps/games.

Oh wow, I didn't realize no DV on physical discs for gaming. That's weird

I really see no significant difference between Dolby Vision and HDR on my C1. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

HDR looks oversaturated to me. Like someone cranked up the Vibrancy slider in Photoshop.

Yeah HDR and DV don't look all that different to me. I buy lots of 4k discs because I want to keep physical media alive, but I honestly don't watch them all that often unless the 4k version is not available on streaming, or its a special occasion...so the 4k player on the ps5 doesn't get used much.

We use the streaming apps on the TV rather than on the ps5 for streaming in most cases. My PS5 is pretty much a dedicated gaming machine though I like that it has the option to play my 4k discs when I want to use it for that.

This. HDR is oversaturated, and DV looks better.

I'm new to DV with the C2 and while my Sony was brighter and HDR jumped out on specific things, everything looks more natural in DV here. It's also hard comparing the two without them being side by side. I liked them both, but seems like everything is pushing DV with the LG

I go with DV where I can because I know it's technically the better format, even if by only a slight margin. Side by side, maybe I'd see the oversaturation but I've never noticed it in normal watching. I think there's a bit of placebo effect happening when that Dolby Vision logo pops up.

The C2 has the best DV implementation I've ever seen. Light years better than my old Sony, and my dad's Sony.

so there's a chance that I might be getting a 90 inch Sharp Aquos from work. I'm debating whether if I'm going to take it.

Pros: it's a 90 inch TV, is marginally newer than the one that is in my game room (2011 vs 2013).
Cons: 140ish lbs, may not fit in my car.

I'll definitely have to pull out the tape measure this evening to see if this thing will fit.

I can't believe how gorgeous this set is. I've stayed away from forums this time so I don't discover any issues that I don't see right now, I'm just going to be happy. The space scenes on For All Mankind and foundation on Apple TV are beautiful
