AT&T reportedly trying to sell DirecTV after massive customer losses

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/202 ... ses/?amp=1

AT&T is reportedly trying to sell DirecTV to private-equity investors just five years after buying the satellite provider. The negotiations with potential buyers come after millions of customers ditched DirecTV over the past two years, and could value DirecTV at much less than the $49 billion AT&T paid for it.

I attempted to watch Black Panther on ABC tonight via Xfinity. It streamed fine on a laptop or iPad, but wouldn't let us Chromecast it. Said something about technical limitations. Everything else was casting fine, including the NBA games today. Strange.

We'll just watch it on Disney+ I guess.

Is there an easy way to convert dvd video to digital files (mp4)? I have a few that I used at school that I would like to try to make available via Teams for online learning.

Just need a dvd ripper. I used to use Handbrake a lot which is available for free.

I tried Handbrake and the video turned out pretty bad (pixelated). The audio did turn out pretty well.

I use MakeMKV to rip the DVD to an MKV file, and then Handbrake to convert to MP4. We host these files on Google Drive for faculty and students to use, and the quality is pretty good.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The president of YT was Roger Goodell's guest at the Superb Owl, so I figured this was just a matter of time.

Weird...... I restarted the app, and on reload was served a roadblock message stating NFLN and RZ were now available on YTTV. I am presently watching Inside Training Camp, but NFLN does not appear in my channel guide.

Don't you have to edit your channel guide on PC? If you are using a custom guide it won't show up but you can still be offered content from a hidden channel.

Also, RedZone is on the $11 Sports Plus add on package, for those that may not be aware.

Hah, I just checked mine. Something I've been meaning to do for a while (wanted to turn off all the Big Ten Networks). NFLN was unchecked, as were all the Comcast properties that came in last month.

Got my first FiOS bill post-contract, and it looks as though the last CSR I spoke with was correct. My bill went up like $4 thanks to newer fees, but I kept the $85 or so in discounts, so I'm still paying within $20 of what I paid in 2011 for the same exact TV and gigabit internet. Get ****, Xfinity.

Amazon’s fall Alexa hardware event is set for September 24th
Amazon’s fall Alexa hardware event is scheduled for September 24th at 1PM ET. It’s not clear exactly what might be revealed at the event — an invite sent to The Verge only said that Amazon’s Devices and Services team would be sharing “some news.” An Amazon spokesperson specified that the event is invite-only, however, which suggests it won’t be live streamed for the public.

It seems likely we’ll see new smart speakers and smart displays of some kind. At last year’s event, for example, Amazon launched the high-end Echo Studio speaker, the Echo Show 8 smart display, and a third-generation Echo speaker. But Amazon could also show off some more surprising hardware; the company revealed the Echo Frames glasses, which had Alexa built in, and the Echo Loop, a smart ring, at its hardware event last September.

Speaking of Alexa, they need to refine the app a little bit. I have reminders setup for my daughter's virtual schooling letting her know when to logon, and when to turn in her exit slip, but the only two options I have are for all Alexa-enabled devices, or a single one. I don't need the reminders on my thermostat or my phone.

I'm actually shocked that they haven't developed one yet.

Their studio speaker is pretty awesome. Wish they made it portable, but it sounds terrific.

There was an Amazon Fire phone several years ago but it was a total flop.
