Yea they’re delusional if they think that’ll go over well or cause people to get their own subscription. Hiking prices so they can continue producing garbage original programming is already bad enough.Just wait til they start blocking password sharing.

What's the hit rate for Netlix and original programming? It's a ratio of 1:10 at least, right? I've watched maybe 8-10 Netflix series all the way through, so maybe 1 per year. But I've scrolled past entire sections of Hallmark-level Netflix drivel without stopping.
The funny thing is they're famous for killing shows people like, too.

They have some really good shows, but a lot of the ones I watch are probably not ‘widely’ liked, and more niche. They need more content that appeals to broader groups.

Wait, no. That's network TV.

The funny thing is HBO Max is what Netflix used to be; a pipeline for new releases from actual studios. Except the bit of original programming provided by HBO is actually good. And it doesn't seem to come at the expense of delivering the top-tier third-party stuff.

HBO Max has the distinct advantage of being HBO. They’ve been producing solid original content since the 80s (or 70s). They’re the longest running subscription channel. They got this **** down.

Wow, my current employer blocks Mullvad's site. That's disconcerting, but I guess they don't want students torrenting and bogging down the network.Well, I went with Mullvad VPN, using WireGuard instead of Open VPN, and so far cannot complain. I configured qBittorent to only use the VPN adapter so that it never attempts to download over the normal ethernet interface, and based on what I'm seeing it's all working well. If I receive another notice from my ISP, I'll know that isn't the case, but I'm confident that it is.

HBO Max added three million subscribers last quarter while Netflix was bleeding. No idea how financially sustainable it is for whatever the parent company of WB/HBO is at this point, but I think there’s a lot to be said for having WB’s back catalog, long history of excellent shows, and big budget movies streaming after 45 days in theater vs. Netflix’s TV movie of the week and 5% success rate on shows that will get prematurely cancelled anyways.

HBO Max is also merging Discovery+ into the app, so added value is on the way.

Yeah. I'm still reeling for NTP66s horrible take in the other thread. When was the last time you fired up Netflix to watch a big-ticket movie that was released this year? Meanwhile I have The Batman waiting for me on HBO Max right now.

HBO Max consistently has the better quality shows and movies (especially movies) and it's not even close.

HBO original content is the cherry on the sundae. The continually revolving door of movies people actually want to watch is the ice cream. You're saying you enjoy an occasional cherry but don't enjoy sundaes. The dessert might not be for you.My issue with HBO Max is the same as the others - not enough content that I care about. I only watch two HBO Max shows, though plan on watching a third.
But then again, you rob the ice cream parlor for the stuff you actually want anyway.

Weird, I noticed I still had a bookmark for the old Google Play Movies&TV app on my desktop install of Chrome, so on a whim I gave it a click. I thought the site/service had been depricated, with the transfer of the functionality to YT, but it loaded up. All my purchases were there......... including the bonus content. It's accessible via direct link to the URL on desktop and mobile, but it doesn't look like there's any way to Cast the content to ye olde TV.
