Yeah, I remember the "upgrade", which was really just creating a new account. That's why I panicked the other day when the new profile had nothing in it. I still use the legacy software because I don't care for the new one at all. If you need v7.7.1, let me know and I'll throw it on my Google Drive for you.
If you created your remote and customized it in the old software, even if you copy the settings to the new software, it will not pull in custom learned IR commands. I'm sure it misses other things, but that stood out right away when my butters were all jacked up because the custom commands didn't exist.

Amusingly I have the installer on my NAS which died sometime during our last move. I need to take it apart and retrieve that data sometime. I also have the original CD, I keep it with the cable.
If I run into issues I'll ping you. But I had no problems a few months ago, hoping this will be fine.

So, it went not as I expected. I figure you'll get a kick out of this.
Downloaded and logged into MyHarmony. Have no idea what their authentication scheme is so I login via my Google account. My remotes are there. Huzzah! Except my last sync was in 2015. And there seems to be no way to get the configuration off of an existing remote that's not already in your account. So I deleted my Harmony One and attempted to add it back as a new remote. A second authentication box pops up asking for a user/pass, so I put the most likely one in there that I know isn't the one my Google authentication didn't override. Viola; my setup is found and it syncs into myHarmony. Just updated the Activities I needed and the remote syncs fine. Woo!

lol, that's close to what I had to do. I still don't understand why they don't give you the capability to take a working remote and save that configuration. So dumb.

My lazy ass, after being here for two years, finally moved my DVR to the top of my AV rack. Our ottoman was blocking the line of site for the remote and pissing my wife off all of this time. While in there I put the new Fire TV 4k in, fixed a speaker connection, and recalibrated the speakers. Very nice to get all of those small issues that I have been putting off out of the way all at once.
Watching some new 4k demo vids I didn't catch before. Neat.

Also, nifty that the 4k version of the Fire TV has sound controls that operate my receiver.

Ditto. Movies are the one medium I will always buy physical copies in the highest quality available and will double or triple dip on releases. I like looking at my modest 500ish Blu-ray/UHD collection.Ha. I'm a sucker for the best possible quality.I can't believe how many people still buy/use DVD/BR/UHD

So far, I’ve been able to find UHD versions of most major movies to download. I wouldn’t bother if I didn’t have gigabit internet, though, seeing as how they range from 20-70GB.

Are they compressed at all? Does HDR and Atmos come through on those? So far, I’ve been able to find UHD versions of most major movies to download. I wouldn’t bother if I didn’t have gigabit internet, though, seeing as how they range from 20-70GB.

These ones aren't compressed or re-encoded, and basically just remuxed from the source content. And yes, you can find TrueHD and Atmos versions of most popular titles. Are they compressed at all? Moved into a new, bigger place and pending a pretty significant raise, I'm venturing into "legitimizing" my cord cutting ventures with regard to NFL and college football...
So, I'm looking for recommendations - with an eye towards value, naturally - on what streaming service makes the most sense to catch the most NFL and college football...it would be great if it included HBO and like NBCSN or NHL Network or something too...
That's part one...part two is: a smart TV that it can be streamed on...

I'll leave the streaming question to others, since I haven't made that move. For the TV, how big, what kind of budget, what are your viewing habits (anything outside of live sports), and what are the lighting conditions of the room the set will go in (very bright, very dark, etc.)?

I'd like to have company over to watch games some time...so a decent size for a living room...I don't know what that answer is...probably at least 48" I'd reckon...viewing habits are only live sports, occasional on-demand content (movies, shows, netflix/hulu), the room can be very bright from ceiling lighting in a 12ish foot ceiling room. That said, there's also only one window and a french door, so it can also be darkened just as easily...
Budget, ideally, isn't more than a few hundo...

DirecTV Now would have HBO, NBSCN, ESPN, ESPN 2, and the local channels at $50/month. I'd just check to confirm your local channels prior to watching. NHL Network and AT&T SportsNet Pitt would not be available.Source of the post So, I'm looking for recommendations - with an eye towards value, naturally - on what streaming service makes the most sense to catch the most NFL and college football...it would be great if it included HBO and like NBCSN or NHL Network or something too...
You could stream from Reddit, though.

48" seems tiny, no? I'd rather get a larger size (60 at least) and not worry about the Smart TV capabilities. Instead, I'd buy an AppleTV or a cheap Roku. I absolutely hate the UI of most smart TVs.

7 or 8 years ago we got what would've then been the equivalent of this set at Costco, and it was $1,100.Mid: Vizio 55" P55-F1 - $699

Thanks for these. Is 4K worth it? It seems like very few things are done in 4K...is this future-proofing it? If so, how long till I see a real tangible advantage? 3 years? If so, is the cost savings of not going 4K worthwhile for this moderate purchase? Clearly, I don't follow this industry, but just anecdotally, I feel like 4K isn't very popular/standard...Low: LG 50" UM7300PUA - $360 (sale on this ends in a few days)

I was going to ask about the size, but if you want to stick to a certain budget, your options dwindle. I'd rather have a high quality smaller set than an average larger set. As for the Smart TV stuff, it entirely depends on how you're accessing your streaming content. IMO, it makes zero sense to go with Apple TV if your TV has access to all of those apps natively. I can't speak to Vizio's interface, but Samsung's is okay. Sony's is outstanding, however. I no longer need a Fire device attached to access Prime, Netflix, etc.48" seems tiny, no? No such thing as future proofing when it comes to technology anymore, but it's kinda like that. 4k sets are the standard now, and just finding 1080p sets is getting harder and harder. As for tangible advantages, you won't see anything for 3+ years, if I had to guess, in terms of sports coverage. Netflix and other streaming services have 4k content, but we're talking TV shows and movies which you may not be interested in at all. Thanks for these. Is 4K worth it? 4k is worth it now if you use Netflix or Youtube, and probably others.
I prefer using an Amazon Firestick over a Smart TV but that's probably just personal preference.
