Those are maximum figures. You're unlikely to get anywhere near them on any band, so don't get too hung up on that. I will say that just because you have an existing N router doesn't mean you won't get better speeds with a different router. If you've got 802.11ac devices in your home, that right there would be enough for me to upgrade - outside of the fact that Netgear is **** (fight me, LBL).

The new Quantum Gateway, or the older MI-424WR? The latter is extremely dated and limited, FWIW, and you may not even need it...Yeah well I rent mine from Verizon. How does THAT make you feel?
Depending on the router that you have, yes, they have repeaters.do they make like network extenders that would get to a far reaching area of my house that doesnt get good wifi

I bought the ASUS RT-AC68U per NTP's suggestion. It pisses me off because I still am connected to my wifi for like a half mile away my house and my Waze app freaks out when it goes from wifi to lte. So it's too good of a routerThank you very much. I'll definitely look into it.

Why? It doesn’t affect the speed of the router, just the distance you connect. Having it connect that far from your home isn’t a good thing for security.NoReduce your router’s radio transmission power.I bought the ASUS RT-AC68U per NTP's suggestion. For vendor-provided hardware, it's not bad. At least you have 802.11ac and gigabit ethernet as opposed to the MR424's 802.11n and 100MB ethernet.Quantum Gateway but not a super fast connection. I'm the only one on the network so the router is way overkill as it is; hardwired Xbox, and PC, then two wireless devices, phone and tablet. I pick up my network in my parking lot that is probably 250 away, through a concrete building.outside of the fact that Netgear is **** (fight me, LBL).

I wouldn't even run over a Netgear router with my car to save my tires the disgrace of having to physically touch it.

I have to turn off the WiFi when I drive because I hate when it drops me into hotspots when I drive by a fcking McDonalds or something.

If you have an iPhone, disable 'Ask to Join Networks' in the Wi-Fi Settings. Unless you've already connected to them and retain the connection...

While we're on this topic here, I just bought this router
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... _band.html
because my current one, a Cisco from 2011ish, receives terrible interference from our baby monitor also on the 2.4ghz spectrum.
My plan is to run it on the 5ghz. The interference seems to impact Airplay the most like when I'm trying to cast a Pens game or something.
Is this a good move? Or is there a better strategy?

I'd first play around with the channel setting on the 2.4GHz band before disabling the band entirely. If you've got a laptop, download InSSIDer Home (from my Google Drive) and run it on your laptop, walking around your house. You'll see all networks in the area, and will be able to figure out which bands/channels to use to get you the best results.

Thanks. I have my current router set to only use channel 1. I think it only has 11 channels. Maybe the new one has more channel availability.I'd first play around with the channel setting on the 2.4GHz band before disabling the band entirely. 2.4GHz has control channels 1-11, and 5GHz has various control channels ranging from 36-165. The software I linked will help with that, but there are also other recommended wireless settings. Once you get your router - and I'd still advise spending a little more on better hardware - you can get things setup and tweak them based on what you can actually control in the interface. I have no idea how much you can change in the router you linked.

Pulled the trigger on the Asus router (the cheaper one that NTP has). Thanks again.

The RT-AC68U is a god damn workhorse. LBL is simply not worthy.

I do love my ASUS MG28UQ 4K/UHD 28-Inch FreeSync Gaming Monitor though.

I have the RT-AC68U as well. Great router. Asus has an app that works really well for mobile devices, so you control your network from anywhere. Is your wife hammering the home network (uploading/downloading large files from Google Drive) while you are gaming? Throttle her ass, and blame the ISP! It's great.
I can also lock the internet down on certain devices throughout the house, so I can keep my son off his iPad or PS4 when he's home from school.

About 99% of our Amazon shipments come via USPS and FedEx. One of the packages came UPS, and they needed a signature...for a $10 paperback book. Of course, normal people aren't home at 1:45 in the afternoon, so I had to pick it up at the UPS dropoff in town. That was just odd...we get a handful of UPS things delivered, but never required a signature. I wonder if it's to combat porch piracy?
