One of the detainees was apprehended with that old Russian weapon, he didn't even have rounds for it. I wish I could remember but I have no idea what it is anymore. I want to say it was a WWII era piece, maybe older.

Yeah, I was thinking an old Soviet sniper rifle.

She doesn't look it in that flight suit but she was a deployment 10/10, btw. Fitness addict, in great shape and a really fun attitude. She was a MCMAP instructor and helped some people get their gray and green belts. I never got to throw her around myself, though.

I will pop an 800 MG Motrin tonight and swig it down with a toast to the Marines. Obligatory posting of my favorite Marine (outside of 5AF)

My uncle that was a career Marine was actually never all that gung ho. But holy hell, mention Chesty Puller around him and he'd go all Rockridge/Randolph Scott.I will pop an 800 MG Motrin tonight and swig it down with a toast to the Marines. Obligatory posting of my favorite Marine (outside of 5AF)

I think I mentioned it before, but when we were in NC we met another couple who happened to be from the same place in PA. (He was from Lycippus, I was from Latrobe but living on Armel Road, so we each pretty much lived on opposite sides of Glengarry Golf Course) He ended up being the best man at my wedding and my wife is the godmother to their children. Now we're both back in Westmoreland county. He is a letter carrier and has some USMC friends from work, so we're all going to go have a drink to commemorate the occasion this evening.
This is us doing the admittedly posed 'getting dressed for the wedding' picture:
Semper Fi, 246.

Is it frowned upon if you choose not to wear your dress uniform if you are getting married?

It looks badass, but you don't have to.Is it frowned upon if you choose not to wear your dress uniform if you are getting married?

Nobody cares.

This reads like you noped out on the godfather request, which might be the true story. He ended up being the best man at my wedding and my wife is the godmother to their children.

It's more of a testament to my wife's awesomeness than anything about me. The godfather is the fathers best friend.
Also, as a lapsed Christian I wasn't a good choice since they do take their faith seriously.
I do like the girls, though.

I don't have access to it (it's at my mom's place in Altoona), but we have an 8x10 of my uncle in what was probably his 15th or 16th year of service in his blue A's. Like the formal composed portrait with the flags in the background. He had icy blue eyes a la Kimi Raikkonen and Valteri Bottas, and in that uniform he looked................ depending on your mood either utterly badass, or like a future serial killer. We had several of those photos at different times during his service, but that last one is actually kind of a haunting image. I have a small photo of him aboard USS Inchon from the 80s where he's manning a post, and he looks much more goofball.

247th Birthday now:
I'm playing my first week of indoor golf league tonight and then heading to the bar with above mentioned best man. He called me a month ago and asked me what I was doing today.
I'll use my carry bag tonight, I like its subtle patriotism:
